EXTREME ALERT!

Israel sounds an “EXTREME ALERT” alarm as soon as incoming missiles or drones are detected, giving most time to get to a safe place, but it’s not always enough. And yet, while Israel is trying to destroy armaments and eliminate those who give the orders, the enemy is aiming at civilians: men, women and children. There are NO really safe places, as the enemy dares to strike homes, hospitals, and schools, as well as military targets.

Human history has been written from its beginning by a Pen dipped in Blood. So, today, when the alarms sound, we run to our shelters without delay. Even so, each time there are people who have died or been injured. These numbers grow daily, but numbers don’t show the suffering or pain; they only show the extent of our national shared sorrow. No one is alone. Continuously, in every generation over the long reach of human history, we live as a people. We suffer as a people, and history is often written in Jewish blood. WHY?

EXTREME ALERT: Night after night Israelis must drag their children from their beds and take them to a bomb shelter. Invalids must find a safe corner… if they can. Then the unfortunate few will find their beds and their homes obliterated by a devastating bomb, the rest will return but remain alert, on edge, prepared for the next run for safety.

CEASEFIRE? The word is a calming sound filling the air it's spoken into but, like a piece of paper crowding the edge of the flames, it can burst into fire and smoke in an instant. In almost all wars of the Middle East, ‘cease’fire agreements mollify the peacemakers while changing absolutely nothing. The aggressor determines how and when he will ignore it, and when the victim responds, international reprimands are "equally applied".

Does this sound like a children's playground game? It is. But it is deadly. For millions, history is again written with a Pen dipped in Blood.

For the people of Israel, the world is permeated again and again by the blood-lust of those who would physically eliminate the People of Israel, the Jews. Though “they” have never succeeded, "they" continue to try. Who "they" are changes with the ages, but the target never changes. It seems to be an integral part of human existence repeatedly engraved on the tombs of history. You don’t have to be a historian to see it because in each generation, the hatred, once ignited, is visceral -- from the ages before and generations since the re-establishment of the State of Israel. With a Jewish population relatively small and scattered among the countries of the world, it begs the question: WHY?

Just as someone must always find the excuse that ignites the fire, so the moment Israelis began to return to their ancestral land became that excuse and the fire continues to burn ever more fiercely: The elimination of this ancient people has become a consuming passion even for people who have never met a Jewish person. It has never made sense, and it is not the fuel of logic that feeds the consuming flames. So... WHY?

It is notable, however, that over the ages, the most vicious of wars have been fought in the name of idols, gods, and religious practices -- yet while divided against one another, these same haters are often viciously united in the hatred of the Jew. WHY?

SO today, take note: This war may begin with a battle to destroy Israel, but it is not only hatred of a country, it is not about industry or wealth, land or power: it is a jealous, baseless hatred of “the other”.

In spite of claims to the contrary, the wealthiest people in the world are not Jewish. The most powerful political leaders in the world are not Jewish. If there is one place the Jewish people stand out in numbers and achievement, it is in the benefits they have enabled in the fields of medicine, education, and support of the weaker members of society. If anyone unbiased diligently seeks the truth, researches history and science, this will be obvious, but these days, who has time to seek truth? It's easier to believe whoever shouts the loudest, or has the best TV show and, incidentally, it's easiest to follow whoever has more fame, and safer to stand with whoever carries the bigger stick.

Now, the Pen of History is once again being dipped in Blood and the Jews (first and foremost the Israelis) are at the top of the list. Now, having the will and ways to defend themselves, will the outcome, the end of the story really be the end? Yes or No, the question remains: WHY?

A note of caution for all: The Ayatollah doesn’t hesitate to say publicly that the Christians, first and foremost in the USA, a so-called Christian nation, are next in line. It has always been so. Even in pre-Islamic history, peoples and religions (Christianity and idolatry) have united against the Jews, the Hebrews. But over the centuries since Islam gained power, Islamic leaders have needed and been able to influence Christians to join in the effort to eliminate of Jews: How are so many so ignorant? Islam has an ancient goal: To rule the entire world. Don’t Christians know they will be next in line! There is an unattributable, but well-known saying:

"First the Saturday People, then the Sunday People".

Have you, yourself taken note of any or all of the above? If not, the reality of another World War, now with Nuclear armaments, should surely get everyone’s attention! Israel is the easy target just now, but the Ayatollahs state boldly that the US is the 2nd target with other world governments to follow if they don’t align. There is now a significant, extreme and powerful population of anti-Israel, anti-Christian Islamic supporters in nearly every ‘influential’ country of the globe.

And so, the Pen of History will continue be dipped in the Blood of the innocent: yes, maybe of the Jew first, but of many millions around the world who will follow. Other nations, other peoples, will also be forced to convert or be obliterated.

The West looks at modern history, at best maybe at a few generations, the rest may be interesting to them but is not seen as relevant today. The East sees history in thousands of years and discounts NONE of it as irrelevant.

Stated simply, the Jewish faith, its writings, preceded Christianity. Christians based their faith on a Jewish Messiah and retained the Jewish Scriptures as their basis. Mohammed forced both Jews and Christians to copy the parts of their holy texts that he selected to form a basis for his new theology, as written in the Koran, Islam. Then he set out to enforce his religion and his rule by brutally and militarily conquering the world of his day, nation by nation. He was not a prophet, though he is seen as such today; he was a very successful militant. His purpose wasn’t to just create a new religion, but to use it as a basis of law for his new society, one he would rule with an iron fist. Coming late, it was imperative that it supersede both Judaism and Christianity.

Don’t be mistaken: As Islam has grown and adapted, its monetary and political influence has invaded almost every country on earth. Does that sound like a wild exaggeration? Well, it isn’t.

Check for yourselves. Today, in most countries it’s no longer necessary to hide virulent antisemitism and even anti-Christianity; it’s openly or covertly expressed by citizens and leaders alike, loudly in the streets, in the media. Universities and institutions of educational, monetary and spiritual influence now propagate or turn a blind eye to an active hatred of Jews and work to eliminate any Christian influence. What is new in this generation is the open and strong anti-Israel stance and the capability for violent enforcement of Islamic rule by physically wiping out populations who do not submit. Who would have thought that people who experienced and still remember Hitler and WWII would be so gullible.

NOW, from Oct. 7 ^th forward the threat is not only in Israel, not just in Gaza, but in the whole world, your world and your world is now becoming a battlefield as well.

What calls out for your attention is that the battle will be fought not just in ideology this time, but in blood, the innocent blood of men, women and children of all ages and nationalities.

QUESTIONS:

As we read the headlines, quotations and directives on the issues of the day, some questions come to mind with regard to the war between Russia and the Ukraine and the question of a final resolution for Gaza. Some things just don’t make sense. There are no answers below, just Questions:

QUESTIONS – The Russian-Ukrainian War :

Does anyone understand the “warm relationship” evidenced between Trump and Putin?

It doesn’t seem to be a matter of who or how the Ukraine is being ruled. That’s an internal issue for the Ukrainians.

Why has Putin been “allowed” to invade another country, the Ukraine, without severe international consequences?

Why is he being allowed to “negotiate” on his own terms?

He is seemingly allowed to negotiate from the basis of the new reality he has created.

Why is the Ukraine obligated to surrender Ukrainian territory that was taken by the Soviets in a Soviet-initiated war?

Why should the Ukraine have to then reward the US (a moderator who clearly favors Russia) with mineral rights in the Ukraine for negotiating an unfavorable ceasefire??

The aggressor (a long-term dictatorship and warmonger) is being rewarded and the defender punished – for America’s gain?

Is this the new American way?

Questions - Gaza Solutions:

Whose idea was it that Trump or the US (or anyone else) should take over Gaza and rule it as autonomous territory?

“..Or all hell will break loose” (which it hasn’t). Is that vague and so far empty threat the only or best way to ‘assist’ Israel?

Did not the US (not Trump, of course) create the current problem in the first place by “encouraging” Sharon to force Israeli citizens, business owners, farmers, out of their homes and cities, to be replaced by “grateful” Arabs.

In addition, the new Gazans by donations and negotiation were freely given a working and profitable agricultural enterprise which they promptly destroyed. How did that benefit anyone?

How will the US will “take over the area” in order to restore peace? Who will live there in peace?

The current “innocent” citizen that violently hates every Jew, every Israeli?

QUESTIONS – Sinai Threat:

Why has Egypt been allowed to insert a large military base, arms, equipment and thousands of soldiers, into the Sinai on the southern border with Israel?

It is clear infringement of the peace treaty with Israel? Why weren’t they stopped, by the US, the UN, Israel, anybody?

Who is the enemy they are trained and prepared to fight using their advanced American weaponry?

As you consider the possible answers to these questions, it would be good to ask one more question and look at the historical answer:

QUESTION – Cessation of War:

In which American war since WWII has the US absolutely defeated a terrorist/insurgent enemy with a surrender and an end to the fighting?

Might I suggest we review the history of just the most recent long wars? Afghanistan? Vietnam? Korea?

Without going into the justification or the details of the wars, consider this:

Victory and Defeat do not seem to be popular endings for wars and insurgencies in our time. There is no actual end, no winner, no loser, to end any of the above and many other localized wars. Since the wars never end, people continue to fight and die. There is a measurable increase in the number of wars, both between countries and within them.

Maybe, just maybe, we are doing something wrong?

Will you be the next hostage???

Will YOU be the next hostage?

The now well- established way to win a war. is to take hostages, not one, not two, and not highly–placed officials. Just common ordinary 'you', your children, your grandparents, your babies…it doesn't matter because almost everyone is loved and treasured by another. Now, the key is, don't just take a few. Take as many as possible. They can take a celebration, a whole small town, and, yes, they have already taken nations hostage and they win. Then, if some are killed or known to be injured enroute, the power and the threat of the kidnappers is only enhanced. It's to their advantage to proclaim your torture, injury and even your death.

Now that the terrorists, the often-drugged, power hungry war mongers have seen one of the most powerful of governments subdued and willing to give into their demands, there will be no limit anywhere in the world. Even the captured fighters will live to fight again, free to murder, maim and terrorize, with no fear of re-arrest.

So what's to be done? Must decent human beings become monsters like them in order to live free and ensure their own survival??

With this victory of Hamas, no matter how many soldiers and civilians they lost, every person in the world is at risk of being taken hostage in exchange for power, money, fame and religious extremism. Every sicko, religious fanatic, from the individual to heads of nations, to the leaders of every insurgent and terrorist group in the world, they all now know the key to victory: hostages, the more the better. Their aim is to rule the world, to subjugate all nations down to the level of the individual, on pain of death or disfigurement. It's not theoretical, it is real, physical and there for the world to see in the countries they rule -- top of the list Iran, Afghanistan, among others.

Those taken prisoner just enjoy a respite and time of rest until they are released to fight again. Those of their fighters that are injured receive top level medical assistance at our finest hospitals, only to be released to kill again. Are we naive fools? Is it so very important to be humane to murderers such as these. Have civilized nations become to weak to maintain civilization against murderous barbarians? Unfortunately, it begins to appear so, as even the overly 'humane' Israel suffers the howling of antisemitic hordes of the so-called liberal nations. Must Israel bow down to the terror in order to accommodate sensitivities of those who do not live under threat of death? (I seem to remember some civil wars in their histories that were not so civil, even to each other.) So we should give up our freedom in order to appease their newly found civility?

Yet we all hurt for those in captivity and we all feel the pain of their families. What can we do to avoid surrender and more war, more captives, in the future?

Where will it end? Who has the answer?

where To hide?

In small farming community two small beds of preschool children, the sheets and pillows mussed and bloody, give witness to the sudden death of a whole family, brutally and without cause... just because they are there.

Early morning, work day traffic is crawling slowly down the hill from a suburb and back up the hill toward the city, Jerusalem. Bumper-to-bumper, two lanes, they inch along... then the shooting starts.

A wounded pregnant woman crawls from her car seeking help. Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, like wooden ducks all in line at a shooting gallery.

On a normal weekday, people in a small city walk near the shopping mall, hear the gunshots and dive for cover, peeking around to see who is shooting, from where, while on the sidewalk innocuous young man in a yellow security vest stands firing randomly, at everyone.

The security guard was closing up the mall after the last customers had gone. He thought he was alone, ready to go home when he was struck in the head with an axe. The attacker was a man he knew, chatted with, a local butcher who joked with customers at the meat market in the Mall.

Then, at a holiday celebration, in a nature park, to the background of laughter, music and dancing, all turned to horrifying ear-shattering screams and gunfire, the clash of knives, rape, dismembering and vicious murder, expanding to nearby homes and villages to end the lives of more than 1200 human beings of all ages. Moreover, in a few short hours, one early morning, hundreds of elderly, adults, children, even babies were taken hostages, dragged away, hidden and abused, some unto death. Even foreign workers were not spared. No one is sure how many of the taken survived in captivity October 7th and even some who did are now likely dead. This was and is Israel's 2023 Holocaust.

Yes, we are Jewish... but who decided that this is a crime worthy of death. and not only within Israel? The excuse in the Middle East: because the Brits gave the desolate Holocaust survivors a place in their under-populated mandate of Palestine? If that is so, why attack the Jews in every other land on the planet? It's an ancient hatred and it is found in every corner of the world. There is no logic. The war that began hundreds of years ago still rages today.

Unfortunately, the anti-Israel hatred infects most countries and they condemn Israel for defending itself, turning its citizens into pariahs in their own land, a land that once and again is their only land. Yet, interestingly, even now, as the nations of the world watch and condemn Israel, their own streets are filling with terrorists. If Israel were to submit, would that end the slaughter and bring peace to the world, to Europe and to the US??? Really??

NOTICE: The same murderous fanatics who now attempt to destroy Israel won't stop with Israel and the Jews: It's a religious war for world domination. Its fighters are in every country, often drugged and armed with weapons of mass destruction. They are backed and tolerated by ignorant World Leaders who are under the illusion that they can use them, manipulate them, then take control when they are ready!

For now it's here, in Israel, a tiny strip of land, surrounded in the north, south and east, by the enemy and and on the west, by the sea. We have no place to run, no place to hide. We have no safe place.

L ook in your streets, at your universities, read your media, and listen to your politicians. Our enemy is also your enemy. They have been preparing, immigrating legally and otherwise, infiltrating and influencing the gullible in your countries for years with their propaganda.

They are already in place among you.

They are armed with money and weapons.

Why endanger their own children?? Why did so many families endanger themselves and their children in a war they knew would come?? Did they need the money, a home? Why on earth would they agree to build a missile launcher into their homes?

How could they not know that they were painting a target on their families? Did they hate Israel enough to die or lose their families by installing a war machine of mass destruction in their homes? Did they really think that Israel would allow Israeli families to die just to avoid harming theirs??

But then, what other Enemy besides Israel has ever, would ever, ever break into a local radio broadcast to give them advance warning to flee before destroying that missile? Drop leaflets? Give them time to flee? What other Enemy would warn them before an attack in order to save their lives and the lives of their innocent children?

Did anyone warn Israeli children not to play ball outside, not to stay in their homes or, indeed, warn them about impending attacks, tell them to flee before firing incoming bombs and missiles?

Yet YOU , you who sit in your homes comfortably and read this or watch the TV war, watch the death and destruction, and mindlessly criticize Israel -- the small country whose homes and cities are being bombed day and night, the homes of families who have NO MISSILES installed in their homes.

Yes, YOU who stand against Israel and its right to defend its borders, its cities, and its children, YOU in Europe, Africa, Asia, in the UN, the US and the Americas, the international media, YOU whose streets are being filled with anti-Israel hate mongers and violent antisemites. ... and when he is old.... Most adults can finish that truism in some form or another, depending on language and culture. Is it really possible in any society that parents want their baby to grow up to be an emotionless killer or to die as a suicide bomber? What kind of radical society produces this kind of mother? or father?

Today, it is indisputable and impossible to ignore! The daily headlines are bigger and black, with photos and videos. This training is integral in UNRWA administered programs in Muslim schools, in Mosques and is primary at all levels of extremist religious organizations: children are being "trained up" with the mentality and the capability to kill the “infidels”, the Jews first, then the other "infidels", mercilessly and without hesitation!

Do you REALLY think it's only NOW, ONLY in the Middle East?

Do you think it's only in the Middle East? It's world wide and it's not new. Sorry to inform you: There have been recent headlines in England, and new headlines in Colorado, There have been studies and investigations of radical insurgents, terrorists, and, yes, of UNRWA itself, and this is NOT new. However, it is NOW the HEADLINE NEWS IN ISRAEL, in pictures, in action, on the front lines. Child soldiers? Terrorists? Yes, even child suicide bombers! Has this been in YOUR NEWS HEADLINES??

According to the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) update, a Hamas commander revealed that the terror group used children to deliver explosive devices in bags of vegetables and to provide situational reports to terror groups from battlefields in Gaza after an attack.

Even the UN itself reported in a study: “... thousands of children have been abducted, recruited, used, or otherwise associated with or affected by terrorist groups. Once recruited, children are assigned a variety of different roles, from direct engagement in terrorist acts, (undertaking suicide missions or carrying out executions); to more subordinate roles, as porters, cooks or informants. There is no single path to recruitment, but once associated with these groups, children are subjected to multiple forms of physical and psychological violence, including forms of torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. They are often injured or killed in combat."

The report states that action must be taken to correct this, however, either it is only a bureaucratic promise or its the active corruption of the local governments that prevents change. Either way, it is now proven that UNRA in Israel as in other countries, is itself controlled locally, often by the terrorists.

For this reason Israel has been trying to end international funding to UNRWA, hoping to stop Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, hoping to prevent them from training and using children as soldiers in Israel and abroad. In a briefing to international media outlets, the IDF showed reporters the footage recovered from the Gaza Strip. Hamas and Islamic Jihad who have for years openly run and promoted summer camps in the Gaza Strip. There children undergo military training, learn to fire weapons, use tunnels, fight against tanks, and kidnap soldiers as part of their early training for the terror groups’ military wing. Now, citing intelligence, the IDF says “a large number of these minors are currently active” in Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Unless those who rule the 'free' world in our time stop this horror..... they too will eventually fall as its victims.

Whoever thinks that the reason for the attack was only the tremendous hatred and the release of the prisoners, does not see the big picture. And I'm not talking about the picture of Hamas or the Palestinians, but about the really big picture.

According to foreign reports, about 500 militants from Hamas and Islamic Jihad participated in exercises in September, led by officers of the Quds Force, the foreign operations arm of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Ismail Kaani, commander of the Quds Force who participated in the training himself.

Intelligence sources in the world claim that Iran initiated the attack. The Wall Street Journal, quoting senior Hamas and Hezbollah officials, reports that the decision was made at a meeting in Beirut on October 2 in the presence of their leaders. An adviser to the Syrian government and a European official gave the same account of Iran's involvement.

So this is Iran. But why her?

Because, despite their monstrous hatred and desire to murder us, the Iranian leadership is generally very thoughtful. Even when they choose to use direct force, they do so with strategy. This is the most invested project in global energy ever, Putin's baby, built over the past two decades, quietly, quietly, in partnership with China in the East, Russia has made reality Putin’s psychic dream of a pipeline system from its territory to half the world, and also to Europe. Until recently, Russia dominated the West by controlling the gas and oil tap. And together with China they also penetrated the energy market in the Gulf. The one who greatly benefits from this cooperation with Russia and China is Iran. You know, Iran. Just last July, Iran signed a gas agreement with Russia in the amount of 40 billion dollars, which joins a lot of other business that exists between the two and between them and China. Iran sits on the second largest gas reserves in the world after Russia, and it needs to sell it to someone. So, with the help of Putin's infrastructure, Iran sells gas to... the West. Weird, right? Sanctions on Iran? Not when you have Russia.

Last year, Russia brought in an astronomical amount of 138 billion dollars just from gas exports and another 218 billion dollars from oil exports, and this is despite sanctions imposed on it following the Ukraine war.

Russia makes a lot of money from Europe.

Putin's pipeline is no longer an economic project - it is a colonialist infrastructure project of power and strength. This pipeline made Russia a semi-monopoly. Putin built with the genius of a skilled chess player the smartest thing he himself could think of. He is the largest gas supplier of Peking Europe. Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense intercepted an incoming Palestinian rocket Friday night. After a second rocket fell short inside Gaza, the IDF responded by attacking Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip. The response the following day from Gaza was an announcement that there would be joint action by all of the terrorists groups in response to Israeli attacks. (This after years of denial by Hamas that it was responsible for the constant attacks by other terrorist organizations.) They also threatened immediate “response” to any Israeli retaliation and warned that the death of any of their leaders would be avenged by attacks on “specific targets’ in Israel. This is, of course, does not acknowledge 17 rockets fired from Gaza into Israel and 30 “balloon” ignited fires in Israel on Friday alone. However, it must be said that even if Israel wanted to strike the leadership from the top, many have fled to very nice lives in Turkey, leaving the poor in Gaza to suffer whatever response Israel makes to the bombs and rockets incessantly aimed at Israel.

Turkey has reportedly allowed Hamas to establish a high-powered staff of 60 in Istanbul for planning and funding terrorist attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem using sleeper cells. Israeli intelligence has confirmed that Erdogan has even given citizenship to a dozen Istanbul-based top Hamas brass which includes Turkish passports. Now they will have freedom to travel and threaten Israelis in countries where Hamas itself cannot openly operate. Worse, they are by in large convicted murderers who have served long sentences in Israeli prisons for terrorist attacks and the ensuing multiple murders of civilians. They were, against the advice of many Israelis, freed in order to gain the return of an Israel soldier, Gilad Shalit, in the 2011 prisoner swap. As a result of this and more, Israel now considers Turkey not far behind Iran in terms of enmity toward Israel.

Israeli and foreign news and intelligence sources report that following direct Israeli cautions about Hamas activities in Turkey, in a clearly in-your-face decision, Mr. Erdogan met Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas in an internationally publicized official event. It is also reported that Turkish intelligence agents maintain close contact with the group’s operatives in Istanbul. To eliminate any doubt, Turkish President Erdogan asserted, “We will keep on supporting our brothers in Palestine.”

Turkey agreed in a US-brokered 2015 deal with Israel to stop Hamas planning attacks from its soil but has consistently failed to honor the agreement, Israeli officials said. Hamas is considered a terrorist group by the EU and US. Its armed wing has been designated a terror group by the UK. In February Hamas assigned a Palestinian to assassinate Jerusalem’s mayor, an Knesset member from PM Netanyahu’s party or Israel’s chief of police. The plot failed. In another case, a Hamas operative offered to pay $20,000 to the family of any would-be suicide bomber. However, a Turkish diplomatic source of course officially denied Hamas was planning these attacks from Turkey, adding that Hamas is “not a terrorist organization” but a legitimate Palestinian political party. However, there are transcripts of Israeli police interrogations with the would-be assassin and others that show senior Hamas operatives are using Turkey’s largest city to direct the operations in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Turkey has proved such a welcoming environment for Hamas that the group’s deputy leader, Saleh al-Arouri, who has a $5 million (£3.8 million) US government bounty on his head, travels freely to the country without fear of arrest. This week a relaxed Arouri posed for photographs with other Hamas leaders in Istanbul. “We reject all claims that Turkey is being used for anti-Israel activities,” a source said. Amid the increasingly dire humanitarian and economic situation in Gaza, large numbers of Palestinians are leaving the Strip and traveling through Egypt to Turkey to start new lives. An estimated 35,000 left in 2018 and did not return.

So then, what is the solution?

Retaliation doesn’t work. Cutting off aid (except all humanitarian aid) doesn’t work. The leaders aren’t there to suffer! and the money to pay poor Gazans to suffer and carry on with the primitive but effective attacks is provided by Turkey and others. Limitation of fuel for electricity or other necessities only punishes the poor who are then an easier target for recruitment of suicide bombers and terrorists. The power and wealth of the leadership must be, if not eliminated, then at least be diminished. And here we enter the quagmire of political, both national and international, concerns. Here we enter the world of humanitarianism and the calculation of the human cost of any effective solution while trying to identify those who are willingly active in terrorist activities for monetary, emotional, political, spiritual or other reasons.

In spite of the casual – even official – use of the word “war” to describe modern armed conflict/warfare, there have been no real definitive wars since WWII. Most of the military conflicts that a normal person might term ‘warfare’ have been designated ‘conflicts’, ‘actions’, etc. And, worse, even the few that were officially named “wars” (Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan) there are no clear losers, no clear winners. No country or terrorist group has paid the ultimate price for carrying out an military/armed attack on another nation from within or without since Hitler’s Germany and the Axis powers. North Korea? Vietnam? Lebanon? Since there are no winners, no losers and only armistices with some artificial borders, they have become wars of attrition from without and from from within. Frequently, there are no state armies involved, but organizations of resistance, terrorists, against a government’s security forces trying to stop the intermittent attacks.

The few who pay the price are never the official network of powerful instigators and supporters. The perhaps well-intentioned humanitarian groups even thwart minimal efforts to stop the chaos. Whole populations are fleeing, many with nowhere to go because the wealth and power of the UN and the EU, as well as non-governmental organizations do not permit dethroning the murderous conquerors (or leaders) of their respective countries. And when some of these murderers cloak their militancy in a spiritual guise, their fanaticism often gains untold thousands of followers and destroys the lives of millions.

Perhaps there is a solution, but if so, no one is currently willing to even consider it by any known means unless or until it clearly becomes defense against national annihilation. The terrorists and extremists are willing to torture, maim, kill the innocents little by little, a ‘few’ at a time and even into the thousands by any means in order to win. Most in power today are unwilling to pay that price.

And if a solution is found, who indeed has the ABILITY and the WILL to implement it?

Of course, it’s only news to the uninformed and, in spite of the public announcement, the uninformed will likely remain so. As fires burn on the southern border of Israel, as fires consume parks, homes, schools, public buildings… and people, in Israel and anywhere else in the west, the terrorists are still the victims in the world of those who shape public opinion.

Israel may be forced to fight fire with fire, but it will not be arson and the uninformed will once again be incensed and loudly defend the terrorists as victims.

Syria: A war with no winners, millions of losers, a threat to the entire Middle East!

On October 30, 2015, I wrote the following in an effort to describe the current status of Russian, Iranian, Syrian Forces, ISIS and Hezbollah in Syria and Lebanon:

The Russian air force carried out heavy bombing attacks on Thursday morning, October 29, against rebel targets in southern Syria, including the Daraa area adjacent to the Golan. The loud explosions could be heard in the southern section of the Israeli side of the border. Moscow has augmented its military presence in Syria and Iraq while Hezbollah, egged on intensely by Iran, has made every effort to plant its forces along the Syrian border with Israel.

I wanted to give a broad picture of the chaos and the constantly shifting alliances and strategies that threaten the stability and safety of Israel. Constantly changing alliances, agreements, wins and losses overtook the effort, each time I return to the issue, I see the same insurgents, same armies, same Islamic extremists, same reports of bombings, civilian casualties, and an ever-worsening situation, much of it significant to Israel’s security!

Oct. 30, 2015, the major powers moved quickly to reconvene a broad multilateral conference in Vienna to explore the situation at that time as the basis for a political blueprint for resolving the Syrian conflict.

This conference was attended by the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, France and the European Union.

The BBC reported on the October meeting, including their view of the strategies of the key “players” in the murderous war for control of the Middle East: (News reports indicated US reluctance was overcome and allowed Iranian participation.)

Where key players stand on Assad

US: Assad must go, but does not need to happen before a political transition process gets underway
Saudi Arabia: Assad must go “ within a specific timeframe ” and before any elections for a new government
Turkey: Assad must go, though could remain for a “symbolic” six months
SNC (main Western- and Gulf Arab-backed anti-Assad opposition): Assad must go, cannot be part of any political process
Russia: Assad should not be forced to go, Syrians should hold elections to decide who rules them
Iran: Assad should not step down, Syrians should decide their own political future

Subsequently, the UN Department of Political Affairs reported that another meeting in Vienna on November 14, 2015 of the group known as the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), the Arab League, China, Egypt, the EU, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United Nations, and the United States was convened to discuss “how to accelerate an end to the Syrian conflict”.

And so, the world has now “progressed” through 2 more years of meetings, of high-sounding impotent diplomatic missions and “talks”, gallons of news ink and unending “news analysis”, while the blood of innocents soaks the lands of Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq, as well as of the newly carved out Kurdistan, along with that of the combatants. Meanwhile, Europe is overrun by refugees and Israeli quietly operates a medical field hospital for the Syrian wounded who can be cared for and the war goes on.

“Mazor Ladach,” whose name translates to “Bandaging Those in Need,” is a field hospital where the staff treats injured Syrians. “The clinic has already cared for hundreds of Syrians and changed their lives,” said Lt. Col. A., Commander of Operation Good Neighbor.

The clinic itself is located in an uninhabited military post in the southern Golan Heights, in Israeli territory. The 210th Division helped train the staff and the clinic gradually became a real military field hospital. See full article at www.idfblog.com

This site also provides a concise description of the population groups fighting as insurgents in Syria, statistics, and background for the chaos. I think it’s clear, the intensification of the war, the massive death count, and the number of refugees are in great part the responsibility of foreign intervention (including first and foremost, of course, the mass-murderers of ISIS, Al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists). I don’t know if the site editors are promoting one side or the other, but the facts are clear.

I’m certain that only the militants involved can really grasp the subtle differences between the smaller internal insurgent groups. Certainly, it must be impossible for the foreign militias and armies (Iran, Turkey, Russia, US, Saudia, etc.) to bring any kind of order under their own hegemonies…..and each one of them has self-interest and military objective related to establishing their own power in the region.

So where does Israel come into the mix? Primarily, they need stable, non-aggressive governments on their borders. They have to protect Israelis from their warring neighbors. This alone sets Israel against Russian, American, Iranian powers, whether directly or through the groups that they sponsor (Iran: Hezbollah in the north and terrorist groups in Gaza and Sinai).

In Jerusalem, the SVR chief tried to persuade Israel’s top officials to cooperate with the de-escalation zones project that was jointly initiated by the US and Russia in Syria. The answer was no, so long as the two powers don’t act in concert to prevent Iran from establishing a military presence in Syria. Naryshkin also assured them that the Sochi summit Putin staged last week with the presidents of Iran and Turkey was not directed against Israel. This gave some of the security officials pause for thought. However, directly after the Russian official’s departure, word was received that Hizballah was massing troops in southern Syria inside the Daraa de-escalation zone on the Jordanian border, and appeared to be heading west towards the zone bordering Israel.

You can be assured that even if Israel is now conducting pinpoint bombing raids to prevent arms shipments to Hezbollah, it will not easily be drawn into an all-out war. However, neither Iranian, Iranian supported troops, nor Hezbollah will be tolerated across the border within sight and earshot of Israeli towns and villages. So far, no one seems to be convinced that this is a life and death issue for Israel. The Soviets seem to be playing the game named for them, but Israel can’t afford to play by their rules.

If Israel enters the fray, it MUST win to survive, and that, with God’s help, will make the difference.

Once again, the nations of the world turn their eyes upon Jerusalem. The threat of chaos instigated by Islamic terrorists and extremists once again surrounds Moriah, the Holy Temple Mount in the ancient Holy City. Replacing the sounds of prayer — of Jews near the Western Wall, of Muslims from Al Aqsa, of Christians and of the Church bells — that usually fill the Ancient City of Jerusalem is the overwhelming sound of chaos. Around the world is heard the sound of violent clashes between the police guarding the city and those who would rule it with violence. Today, there will be no shoppers in the various quarters of the city, no tourists visiting the holy sites and no children playing in the narrow streets of the city, only the sounds of stones, molotov cocktails, and perhaps gunfire along with the faint smell of tear gas wafted on the wind.

Meanwhile, the focus of the world is on the actions of Israel: Not in their attempt to preserve the Temple Mount and surrounding area as a focus of prayer, of peace and worship, but in the closure of the Mount to extremists and terrorists. They do not come to pray, nor do they come to worship. They come to kill, to maim, to destroy and to strike fear into the world. Between them and their success stands only ISRAEL. No one else steps up to help, but are heard loudly to condemn the only ones attempting to keep the peace and preserve life. For instance:

Islamic State forces pushed their assault forward to retake the central Syrian town of Palmyra Monday, Dec. 12. By evening, they had entered the big Russian-Syrian T-4 air base outside the town, carrying off substantial quantities of Russian armaments. Reporting this, debkafile’s military sources add that the booty they snatched included different types of ground-to-ground missiles as well as anti-tank and anti-air rockets.

Striking from Sinai, a suicide bomber blew himself up a Copic church in Cairo during a service, killing at least 29 worshippers. There have been other recent attacks on Egypt by ISIS, in and from Sinai, and even an occasional attack on Southern Israel. Within Israel of late there has been no major damage or casualties. The attacks mostly act as a reminder that, with the support of local Bedouin tribesmen, ISIS has the ability to attack if, where and when they wish to do so.

Due to the obvious disarray, lack of coordination and manpower, the so-called ‘western coalition’, such as it is, only seems to make the situation worse. Until there is a decision on who should be put in power and a guarantee of control of the country, they are just prolonging the suffering of the civilian population. Given the intent of ISIS to kill men, women and children alike in order to terrorize, control and purge dissenters, protecting them in place is impossible!

The US activity is so uncoordinated with reality as to be ridiculous. US soldiers are put in harms way without clear directives and the probable success of their mission. Whatever success they may have is due to their own abilities on the ground, almost in spite of the directives of the high command.

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, who arrived in Baghdad Sunday, Dec. 11, was assigned by the Obama administration to make a last effort to reactivate the Mosul campaign….

Even if Carter can wave a magic wand and resolve all these issues, the momentum and high hopes that actuated the Mosul campaign when it started have been lost and can hardly be recovered before Barack Obama leaves the White House.

There is no one Israel can align with that has a clear strategy and is a dependable coalition partner for carrying the war through to a defined (and agreed) goal.

The greatest enemies of Israel are not the women, children, young men and old who slash, shoot and throw blocks and bombs at Israeli civilians or security personnel. The real enemies are the ones who send them to attack — the international financiers, donors, prime ministers and presidents, the press and, yes, the flag wavers and rioters on their behalf. Without money, political and moral support, these killers would instead be occupied with working, learning, and building their lives. The proof? There are yet the silent and intimidated among them who do so, successfully!

If you are among the so-called PRO-PALESTINIANS who wave flags, write articles, boycott Israel and send money and guns to encourage an “intifada”…..YOUR FACE should be on the WANTED POSTERS! YOU are the real international criminals, the murderers of women in supermarkets, of old men on buses, of children in their beds. YOU!!! But you are cowards, because you send others to die and you feel like a hero while you live in comfort and safely.

On Tuesday, Sir Gerald Kaufman, a Member of the British Parliament who hates Israel, claimed that Israel was making up the recent Palestinian terror attacks in order to be free to “execute Palestinians.”

While, in the US, Secretary of State Kerry says that the situation in Israel is not sustainable.

But which ‘situation cannot be sustained’?

The Israelis who are trying to go about normal daily lives of working, raising families, and making discoveries that lead the world in research, technical, health and agricultural advancements?

The existence of a terror state in which the youth are inducted into organizations formed to strike terror into the hearts of men, women and children in Israel and around the whole world?

Obviously, it’s the first, since Kerry immediately clarifies: The responsibility for the terror against Israel is on ISRAEL. ISRAEL must cease to resist. Only THEN, the Palestinian leadership must organize, meet with Israel and agree to the two-state solution.

When ISRAEL ceases to resist, ISRAEL will cease to exist.

(Just a question: Should the response to terror against the US or Europe be the same?)

According to UNITED WITH ISRAEL Between October 1-29, 2015, 11 people have been murdered and 126 wounded in the attacks – of them 13 seriously. Magen David Adom also treated 65 victims for shock.

What of the ‘martyrs’?

What about the wasted lives of the mostly-young attackers, some who die, some who are imprisoned, some who flee to murder again….until they die. No one mourns them. They celebrate their deaths! Moreover, after a time, most of them will be forgotten, a statistic except to their own family or community. They die in vain!

The pseudo-governments in the PA and Gaza, like Al Qaeda, ISIS and others do not build homes and schools, repair streets and sewers and a truly SUSTAINABLE economy for their people. They use the funds of the world and the bodies of their people to gain wealth and power through murder and destruction.

Yes, like the Nazis they hide their wealth while they commit genocide against the Jews first, then against anyone else who opposes them……and in the end, they bring only death and enslavement to the Arabs they so claim to love.

EU FUNDS BUILDING IN ISRAEL!?

Are they really willing to pay for this futile exercise? It defies logic.

The EURO is neither strong nor stable:

GREECE is essentially bankrupt. A loan extension was approved a few days ago, but only for a few months. After that??

SPAIN is struggling to rebuild her economy. Unemployment is rampant, with huge demonstrations held over the last year in Madrid alone to protest joblessness.

GERMANY once the powerhouse of Europe and the EURO is struggling to maintain the financial stability of the EURO.

The EURO has been devalued during the last weeks due to international concerns for it’s stability…. and more market and currency shocks are likely to come.

Yet, the hatred for Israel supersedes financial wisdom as EUROs are being invested to build temporary structures for political ends in the OSLO approved Israeli controlled areas in and surrounding Jerusalem. Continual international pressure has limited Israeli building in some of these areas, even inside Jerusalem and surrounding existing towns and suburbs. Yet the cash poor EURO countries tax their citizens to build shanties ( a cost of millions of Euros for 500 or so shanties!) with an EU insignia in open areas to lay claim for the Palestinian Arabs in areas legally controlled by Israel by international agreement.

The hypocrisy is easily exposed by Palestinian and European opposition to the construction of a new city nearby planned to assist the local Bedouin population to move from tents to permanent homes; at the same time the Europeans are claiming that their shanties are ‘humanitarian assistance’ for the poor Bedouin living in tents who may be ‘displaced’ by legal building in the City of Ma’ale Adumim on municipal land. What a waste of money just to create more conflict!

Do the people who are so ill-served by this waste of money even know? Are they really willing to pay for this futile exercise? It defies logic when unemployment is so high, the currency struggles to maintain its exchange rate, and some Eurozone nations have been tottering on the verge of bankruptcy. How can the Eurozone taxpayers possible agree to funding such foreign adventures.

Israel Under Fire: ISRAEL SENDS TROOPS INTO GAZA

Israel has invaded the Gaza Strip after Hamas refused both the Egyptian proposed ceasefire and to honor the humanitarian ceasefire Israel agreed to today. Israel had hoped to be able to stop the rocket fire without a ground invasion. In the end there was no other option which would allow them to give a measure of protection to the Israeli civilians now living under constant missile bombardment. This is a defensive war with the intent to destroy Hamas’ ability to wage unceasing war on Israel.

At approximately 10:00 pm Israel sent the Israel Defense Forces into Gaza in a ground action that should not surprise anyone, but was not a certainty until the final hours prior to the incursion.

The so-called ‘straw that broke the camels back’ as one Israeli news interviewee put it, was the attempt by Hamas to send a large number of terrorists through a tunnel into Israel with the arms and intent to kill a large number of civilians. This followed the decision by Hamas to continue and even strengthen the fire on Israel during the brief ceasefire that Israel had consented to honor. There were more than 150 rockets by 10 pm and another 30 so far after the Israeli attack.

It was already known by PM Netanyahu and the military advisers, that there is simply no way to completely destroy the extensive and well-built tunnels that extend from Gaza into Israel. They are used not only to deliver suicide bombers or snipers into Israel, but to store the thousands of missiles and provide cover for command centers from which to attack Israel. These tunnels are from 20 to 25 meters underground and are to be found the whole length of the border with entrances about 1 to 2.5 kilometers into Gaza from the border with Israel.

Therefore, the stated goal of this battle is to destroy these tunnels, the arms and the means used by Hamas to wreak havoc, injury and death upon innocent Israeli civilians.

HAMAS: ISRAEL’S GROUND OFFENSIVE ‘FOOLISH’ WILL HAVE ‘DREADFUL CONSEQUENCES’

The Hamas spokesman says that Israel’s attack “does not scare the Hamas leaders or the Palestinian people.” Abu Zuhri added that Israel may think that its operation is limited, but it is mistaken. [ Jerusalem Post ]

UNRWA (the UN agency that operates schools and provides support for the poor in Gaza) reported earlier that they found over 20 rockets inside one of their schools. Now they are concerned that they have lost all contact with their Gaza staff.

Palestinians are reporting 1 dead and 6 wounded in the initial Israeli advance. Electrical lines that had not already been damaged have been hit and most of Gaza is without power. IDF artillery fire from land and sea cleared the way for the entrance. It has been reported that the top leaders of Hamas are hiding in a shelter under the hospital. From their they issue their threats and give interviews. They are secure in the fact that Israel will not deliberately target the hospital.

Sirens continue to warn of incoming rockets over the cities of Israel. It is expected that missiles will continue to threaten Israelis over the next few days. Israel has increased by 18,000 the number of reservists being called up, bringing the number to ~60,000 reservists. Israeli civilians living in towns and cities near the Gaza Strip have been warned to remain in shelters until given the all clear.

A missile was fired at the Israeli Golan earlier by Syrians but it fell short into Syrian territory. Meanwhile, Lebanon lodged a complaint at the UN against Israel stating that Israel’s return fire at those responsible for firing on northern Israel over the last couple of days constituted a violation of Lebanese sovereignty.

Egypt for its part has stated clearly that the Israeli attack is the responsibility of Hamas who fired on Israel and refused to even consider a ceasefire.

The British Foreign Minister urged Israel to stay within the lines of “proportionality”. He doesn’t state how long that will keep the next volley of rockets from falling on Israeli schools, towns, and streets. Nor does he say how many missiles we are allowed to fire back for each rocket.

At this time, no Israeli soldiers have been wounded or killed in the first hours of incursion. We are in prayer for a quick end to this on-again, off-again long time war with the least loss of life on either side – with the exception of those seeking to take ours!

Will Israel allow local and international political considerations to determine the outcome of this long-running war. Note some of the latest headlines:

Monday night : Israel accepts Egyptian formulation of ceasefire, including demand for removal of Hamas missile stocks, total cessation of all forms of attacks whether missiles, invasion through tunnels and Jihad attacks inside Israel

Tuesday night : First Israeli death of Gaza operation as mortar shell kills man at Erez Crossing

In spite of Israeli (and Egyptian) efforts, by mid-afternoon more than 76 rockets had struck Israeli territory, by 11 pm more than 130.

The IDF refrained from responding to the rocket fire for some five hours on Tuesday before Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu ordered the IDF to resume strikes in the face of Hamas’s rejection of the ceasefire. [see article: Jerusalem Post ]

Until finally, in the evening the headlines were not just about those who were injured, or a few injured remaining in serious condition in the hospital, including an 11-year old. It was a headline about a 37 yr-old man who volunteered to take food to soldiers near Erez crossing. He was hit by shrapnel and died shortly thereafter. May God be with his family and friends to bring them comfort. Were it not for God’s protection and the skills of those who operate the anti-missile shield, there would by now be many more deaths in Israel.

But, as usual, apparently the diplomatic game must be played. And the world media must be spectators to the match, each reporter trying to outdo the other in their multiplicity of words displaying mercy for the innocent victims suffering at the hands of the Israelis. The reporters must prove that they are ‘fair’ (I didn’t say JUST!) and are weighing the aggressors and the defenders with the same scales.

Never mind that it has been very clear to everyone that Hamas would continue to fire missiles into all areas of the Israel, no matter who won each diplomatic round or what the media published. This they did even during the “official” ceasefires of the months and years prior — just a few, here and there, at a whim. They just blamed it on rogue groups!

Asking Hamas to disarm is like telling PA leader Mahmoud Abbas that he has to recognize Israel and Jerusalem as its Capital. Neither will happen, even if they were to sign an agreement. They have educated their people for 2 or 3 generations to reject any plan in which Israel continues to exist as a state. They will not tolerate the existence of Jews anywhere in the Middle East unless a temporary agreement would give them an advantage in a war to destroy the Israel later on.

No one who has any knowledge of the Middle East can possibly think Hamas will disarm unless were to end up patterned on the ‘success’ in disarming, for instance, Iran? or Syria? or Hezbollah! Since they disarmed, they have gained a larger quantity of weapons and more advanced arms than they had before! Then surely we must consider who would enforce the disarmament: UNIFIL? REALLY? Thus, any ceasefire or truce is just a break to allow them to ‘refuel’ and train new forces.

Not only will Hamas continue to bombard Israel, not only will they continue to use Human Shields, but they will publicly brag about it:

In a bit of public relations confounding to the sane, Sami Abu Zuhri, the same Hamas spokesman who encouraged people to be human shields, appeared on Hamas’ Al Aqsa television Sunday to say his group was not leading Palestinians to destruction. “We are leading them to death,” he said. That, somehow, was offered as a good thing for Palestinians. Surreal!

If there were any hope for a quick resolution, for fewer injuries and deaths, Hamas has made it abundantly clear that it is a false hope.

Hamas’ leaders and elite remain safe in their caves and tunnels, knowing that their millions await them in some foreign bank.

In Gaza as everywhere the extremists operate, the Jihad will go forward and the Caliphate will built on the suffering, the flesh and the spilt blood of the poor and helpless among them.

FreedomOutpost.Com writer Michael Snyder makes the valid argument that Hamas, in aiming its missiles directly at Israel’s nuclear reactor is guilty of attempting to create nuclear holocaust in Israel and the Middle East — in violation of the Geneva Convention, Article 2 (1) of the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism.

Hamas has clearly stated publicly that it is deliberately taking aim at the Dimona reactor, which of course has a significant level of protection. There is irrefutable evidence that they are making every effort to break through the Israeli anti-missile Shield and damage the reactor, with intended unimaginable consequences for the Gazans as well as for the Israelis.

“After the horrors of the Fukushima nuclear disaster, how insane do you have to be to fire missiles directly at a major nuclear facility? No matter what side you are on in the conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians, everyone should be able to agree that it is utter madness for Hamas to fire rockets at the Dimona nuclear installation in the Negev. The intent, of course, was to destroy the Dimona facility and create a horrific nuclear disaster in the heart of Israel.“

In his article entitled “Hamas Just Attempted To Create A Horrific Nuclear Disaster In The Heart Of Israel” , intent, effort and motive are clearly laid out. The question then becomes, how responsible are the world leaders who obviously know this and yet continue to restrain Israel in its attempt to destroy Hamas before it succeeds? Or once again will it be “we didn’t know”, “there was nothing we could do”.

ISRAEL UNDER ATTACK

ALL ISRAEL IS THE FRONT

There are the days and there are the nights:

During the days, rockets rain almost constantly and unpredictably over most of the country — on the homes, schools, shopping areas, roads. In and around Sderot and other southern Israel communities nearest to Gaza, they get the most strikes and have the least time (15 seconds) to find shelter. Once in a while, they may get the satisfaction of seeing a missile shot from the sky before it can strike. There is no pattern, no logic, in the flight of these missiles, just potential death sent by anonymous fanatics some distance away in a house, a school, or a hospital, or maybe even under the ground.

Then come the nights, when there are fewer missiles, but when each brings greater terror, waking people from sleep to rouse their children and get to a safe room in time. It’s either that or sleep in the bomb shelters. And each morning, along with us, those who were under attack all night listen to the news with trepidation, to hear what else has happened under the cover of darkness.

The latest focus of the missiles seems to be Ashdod and Ashkelon, and little further to the north, Tel Aviv. There innocent civilians have maybe 90 seconds to find shelter. And so it goes, toward Jerusalem in the east and Haifa the north and all places in between, day after day, night after night.

Jerusalem, with the Ancient Walled City and Jewish and Arab suburbs, is a special challenge for the terrorists due to its importance worldwide to all faiths. The terrorists want to prove the power of their weapons, even though Al Aksa is located on the Temple Mount and could easily be hit. However, since Mecca in Saudi Arabia is Islam’s true holy site for prayers and pilgrimage, perhaps hitting the mosque in Jerusalem would not be such a disaster for them.

And so now we too have seen rockets shot out of the sky, here over the Holy City of Jerusalem.

Hamas and the Islamic Jihad have seen their strategy work little by little: If they can kill enough Israeli civilians, perhaps Israel will send in ground troops. The Israeli troops are then more exposed to capture, torture and ransom demands which helps to divide the Israelis. And if Israel can be provoked to strike hard enough, caused to kill enough children being used as human shields in Gaza, the International Community will force a cease fire on Israel. Then that same ‘merciful’ community will pour the tax monies of their own citizens into Gazan coffers, money that will be used to build new armaments factories, train more terrorists and buy new arms in preparation for the next round.

We don’t know what this weekend will bring. The Israeli Army has stated that all options are open, that a ground offensive has been approved militarily. None of us clearly understands the pressure being placed on Israel behind the nice words and subtle warnings being broadcast by world leaders, but we do know the potential cost in blood to both sides. We all have grandchildren, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, friends and neighbors on the front lines here, for indeed all of Israel is the front line.

There is as yet independently unsubstantiated evidence for the involvement of the Jabhat al-Nusrah al-Qaeda offshoot in the chemical weapons attack in Syria, at least as much or more evidence than there is for the Syrian army involvement. I would ask why Syria would OR the rebels would fire on the UN inspectors after Syria invited them in (and, as the West claims, already had time to clear the site of evidence). The rebels would absolutely benefit from “proving Syria’s guilt”.

In addition, who is it that wants the West to attack Syria? Certainly not Syria. The Syrians/Iranians/Hezbollah have been defeating the rebels in nearly every serious battle for months now. It’s not at all clear that this attack advanced their goals.

What’s the evidence? Who’s the source? Was Obama involved in setting up the justification for an attack, given the ridicule that has followed his lack of action? Did the Muslim Brotherhood help their allies and at the same time take a few shots at Israel, sure that Iran and Syria would be blamed?

We know that Saudi Arabia and is allies are providing support to the rebels. Do we know to what extent and by what means? They also want to force the U.S. to attack Syria.

There are so many conspirators, all with evil intent. Are there any “good guys” left in power? Or do only the innocent and naive remain to serve as canon fodder in the fight between the religious jihadists and the extreme left for world power.

In the linked article, there are claims that will take some time to verify, but at least some of it may be accurate. We used to be able to believe the Western intelligence reports, the US Admin and State Department. That’s no longer the case. They are deeply involved in multiple (illegal) intrigues both at home and abroad and will cover themselves no matter the cost to others. And don’t be taken in by their ‘concern’ for loss of ‘innocent’ life. Do they care about the churches and the Copts in Egypt? Do they care about other minorities being slaughtered in Africa? What about those Christians slaughtered during the Kenya election violence perpetrated by the so-called extended family of Obama (He even visited there and was sending the ‘rebels’ tax money when he was in the Senate – check it out), minorities in Yemen, in Zimbabwe, human rights in China?? So……we are on our own to figure it out.

However, it really may not matter who’s to blame; it will matter who the West says is to blame. What will follow the disaster that they are plotting. We are all on the sidelines, but for one thing: It will eventually spillover into our living rooms in Israel and it will eventually take sons and daughters from the West to fight a rabid enemy in foreign lands. Then it will eventually come to your living rooms. May God help us all.

Rockets from Lebanon Strike the Western Galilee

Rocket strikes ‘Be’it El’*, an inn for Holocaust survivors in Shavei Tsion

The sirens sounded and residents of the Beit El Holocaust survivors inn in Shavei Tsion scurried to the nearby bomb shelter from the dining room where they were enjoying their afternoon coffee and cake. Soon after, a rocket struck near the kitchen wall, blowing out an iron door and causing further damage to the building and the surroundings. Thank God, no one was hurt. One survivor said, “It was a miracle.”

It’s not the first time the area has been targeted, but in previous attacks, the rockets have fallen in nearby open fields or into the sea.

The residents of Acre, Nahariya, Shavei Tsion and other communities of the coastal Western Galilee know to take cover immediately on hearing the sirens.

The IDF states that 4 rockets entered Israel but one was intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. Another hit a street in Kibbutz Gesher haZiv. A road was damaged along with some vehicles. Two residents suffered from shock.

Minor damage was also caused by shrapnel from a rocket intercepted by the Iron Dome defense system. Lebanese sources reported that 2 additional rockets fell in open areas inside Lebanon.

There have been conflicting reports about responsibility from Global Islamic Jihad to Palestinian groups claiming responsibility. The IDF does not blame Hezbollah, but Iran may still have been involved in directing the attacks.

The prevailing message from the IDF is that it was the Palestinian affiliated groups and thus a ‘one-time’ event. However, those claiming responsibility (see below) are Sunni radicals and, if so, may be an off-shoot of Al Qaeda which might change the picture considerably.

The US administration, of course, advised “restraint” by Israel while the State Department acknowledged that this was a breach of the “blue line” agreement between Lebanon and Israel. Both Israel and the US indicated that the government in Beirut is wholly responsible for keeping the peace.

A UN spokesman noted that “UNIFIL is aware of the reports and the mission has sent one of its helicopters to investigate the incident. The force commander is also in contact with various parties and has called for restraint.” The Lebanese Army and UNIFIL are reported to be launching an investigation.

Ahiya Raved of YNET reported:

The rocket, 122 mm in size, caused a large hole in front of the inn.

IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz held an emergency meeting with head of the IAF, Northern District commander, head of military intelligence and other senior officers to review possible responses to the rocket attack. [SpotlightISRAEL Notes: ~ 04:00 this morning, Israel aircraft bombed the site believed involved in the launch. Lebanon reported no casualties.]

Sheikh Siraj a-Din Zrikat, a Lebanese cleric affiliated with Sunni radicals, said Thursday that the “Abdallah al Aza’am Brigades and the Ziad al Jarah Squadrons” are responsible for the launch of four rockets at the direction of Israel.

The Lebanese Sheikh said that by launching rockets, jihadists will make it to Haifa and other strategic area of the “Jewish enemy.”

French Justice? Media Distortion?

FRANCE –

The Paris Court of Appeals, which had overturned Karsenty’s libel conviction in 2008, convicted Karsenty on Wednesday and fined him about $9,000 in his long-running case against the France 2 station.

Karsenty called the verdict “outrageous,” while a lawyer for France 2 said it was a victory for journalists, according to The Associated Press.

France 2 and its Israel correspondent, Charles Enderlin, sued Karsenty for defamation in 2004 following his claims that a video report by Enderlin on the killing of 12-year-old Mohammed al-Dura in Gaza in 2000 was doctored.

Karsenty claimed the footage of al-Dura crouching with his father behind a barricade as bullets whizzed overhead was a hoax. The footage became an icon of the second Palestinian intifada…

In returning the case to the appeals court, the high court said the appeals court had overstepped its bounds in ordering France 2 to send it the rushes of the report, according to the French news agency AFP.

INJUSTICE –

Once again an injustice is done in the al-Dura case . The French High Court in overturning an appeals court ruling has convicted and fined Phillipe Karsenty of defaming France2 News.

In denying his right to access all of the original footage in order to prove his case, the effect is that a news organization is permitted to film a ‘performance’, present it as news and any parties harmed by such will have no legal recourse to exam all original footage to prove the lie.

Today’s news organization: Is its purpose to INFORM the public or is it to FORM public opinion? The answer is no longer obvious.

This ruling seems to say that there is no defined ethical public responsibility to publish the facts and truths insofar as they can be known. The ‘freedom of the press’ appears to be an unlimited ‘freedom to defame’, including use of their influence to color a news report with their own ideology, to hide, create, or distort the facts and even insinuate bold lies into the story.

This can be done quite easily today by altering photos, creative video editing, or changing a word or two in a quotation. Unfortunately, for many publishers, editors, and reporters, their ‘for-the-greater-good’ end justifies any means. They intend to conform the world to their own view of paradise regardless of immediate and lasting injury to any party – individual, national or international.

By abusing the power of the TV screen, the front page headlines and news blogs, they accomplish two things: 1) intended – they convince the naive and uninformed; 2) unintended – they lose the trust of those who seek the truth. The need to close off other avenues of knowledge to the 2nd group may one day be used to justify government control of the news in countries where it is currently ‘free’.

Are they so blind? Do they not see that by abusing the right given them to find and print truth, that very ‘right’ may be lost, subject to the whim of those who hold power: Heads of State, Parliaments and Justice Systems?

Finally, an official Israeli report on the ‘ al-Dura incident’ has been published, although it has come so late that lasting harm has been done. Everyone has apparently decided what s/he believes. No further information, barring a live ‘boy/young man’ or new hard evidence of death, its cause and identification of the body will change any minds.

In my opinion and according to this report, this was a “Pallywood” production with the local and French press as willing accomplices. The Palestinians’ “Pallywood” staff work hard to present Israel to the world as a terrorist nation who murders women and children. The intended audience, by and large, is still inclined to believe newspaper and magazine reports, photos and, even more so, on-line video clips ‘from the front lines’.

FOREIGN PRESS –

Even some foreign reporters have admitted to being intimidated by locals during clashes. In other cases, reporters have been known to encourage rioting/stoning, as they stand behind the perpetrators to film the ‘action’. The Jerusalem Post reported:

Some western journalists have been warned not to work with Arabic speaking reporters who fail to toe the “All- Occupation, All The Time” reporting. This is how the PA controls not only their own media outlets, but those western outlets. All too many simply play along rather than stand up for press and speech freedoms and possibly risk losing access.

For those journalists who behave and report primarily about the occupation, the rewards are access to senior officials. Senior PA officials told Arab Israeli journalist abu Toameh, “Even the Jews at Haaretz behave themselves and for that they are rewarded with interviews of PA President Mahmoud Abbas.”

Editors should know that whenever the primary reporter and those who file reports ‘from the field’ are locally hired journalists, their stories should be thoroughly checked. However, over and over again, we see that they either have not verified the reports or have allowed the reports through written with an anti-Israel bias which distorts the facts.

And what about the news organizations and the crews themselves? Do the news crews have no moral or ethical values, or perhaps is there loyalty to their rulers override all honesty. There are exceptions, but they are few and are likely to pay a high price.

Is this what we have come to with our fabulous technological ability to report the news from any corner of the world? We’ve seen other staging of a news reports before this one but with much less impact. For instance, during the war in Lebanon Reuters was forced to admit that their photos were photo-shopped to present false battles and deaths.

It’s also reported that the foreign press has submitted complaints from time to time against the IDF for not permitting them free access when there is rioting. The IDF, on the other hand, claims that news crews sometimes, purposely or not, incite the rioters. With the record we have seen, is it any wonder that the IDF is not anxious to permit foreign journalists and local reps of foreign agencies to enter the field with them? In any case, they are likely to find many of them among and behind the rioters.

In addition, the article praises the up-to-date medical training provided for Palestinian doctors at Hadassah Hospital. The Hadassah organization (with 2 major hospitals in Jerusalem) founded, expands and maintains excellent medical facilities that serve both Jewish and Arab Israelis as well as Palestinians. It’s not uncommon for victims of terror and the terrorist to be treated in the same emergency facilities with the same level of care and dedication to healing and saving lives. While this is widely known and sometimes the subject of media attention in the Israeli press, it is nearly never acknowledged by the Palestinian press and is not widely discussed among Palestinians. As noted in a previous article on this site, once the Palestinians leave the hospital, that’s often the end of it.

Alas, we speak in generalities and the positive exceptions don’t ever seem to become the rule.

It is a matter of fact, of course, that Israeli Arabs are both doctors and patients in all hospitals in Israel, a fact which may come as a surprise to certain factions of the international community.

It’s much easier and more popular to trumpet the negative about Israel.

I was instrumental in establishing the Israeli National Skin Bank, which is the largest in the world. The National Skin Bank stores skin for every day needs as well as for war time or mass casualty situations. This skin bank is hosted at the Hadassah Ein Kerem University hospital in Jerusalem where I was the Chairman of plastic surgery.

This is how I was asked to supply skin for an Arab woman from Gaza, who was hospitalized in Soroka Hospital in Beersheva, after her family burned her. Usually, such atrocities happen among Arab families when the women are suspected of having an affair.

We supplied all the needed Homografts for her treatment. She was successfully treated by my friend and colleague, Prof. Lior Rosenberg and discharged to return to Gaza . She was invited for regular follow-up visits to the outpatient clinic in Beersheva.

One day she was caught at a border crossing wearing a suicide belt. She meant to explode herself in the outpatient clinic of the hospital where they saved her life. It seems that her family promised her that if she did that, they would forgive her.

This is only one example of the war between Jews and Muslims in the Land of Israel. It is not a territorial conflict. This is a civilizational conflict, or rather a war between civilization & barbarism.

Bibi (Netanyahu) gets it, Obama does not.

Obama and Erdogan: What was that again?

Are both Obama and Erdogan so arrogant as to think they can do as they please, conspire on war and peace, decide who is friend and who is foe, give a news conference announcing what everyone wants to hear, and no one will be the wiser? Do they really think we are all uninformed, ignorant and oblivious, or just uncaring?

The media does its best to keep us uninformed; the educational system, including our universities, keeps us ignorant, but at least some of us pay attention and we DO care…and we will bring to light whatever is being hidden.

Glenn Beck’s The Blaze and 2 other media outlets are the only ones to report on the request Erdogan brought with him in which he asked the US to file suit against Israel…..while the general public is smilingly told the sole purpose of the meeting was to bring Turkey and Israel closer together!

The question remains: What is Obama’s response? We’ll soon see.

Terror: Tunnels, Stones and Molotov Cocktails

Recently, a new tunnel was discovered which originated in Gaza with an exit into southern Israel. From such a tunnel came the kidnappers of an Israeli soldier and from such tunnels, the terrorists are sent to maim and kill. Even after Israel responds militarily (until ‘called off’ by the Western powers who always know best!), the attacks and efforts to cause mass civilian casualties continue… on a daily basis. Deadly stones are thrown at cars near Hebron and Bethlehem, Molotov cocktails are thrown at civilians and soldiers at checkpoints and historic sites– all these and other attacks during just the last week. Sometimes they make the Israeli news, but not always, and they almost never make the international news unless Israelis capture the perpetrators… then Israel is castigated.

Of course, as long as there is media support for Hamas, as long as there is support from leftist extremists in America, Europe, and Israel and as long as the money pours in, the attempts to terrorize through murder and mayhem will continue! And anyone who thinks that the millions of dollars donated or the tons of humanitarian aid trucked in daily from Israel, Egypt and abroad goes to the poor is being played for a fool.

The junta must keep the poor in dire poverty to be used to pressure Israel through photo ops by official and unofficial “tourists” who come to prove Israel’s inhumanity toward the helpless, starving Gazan Arabs. There will be no improvement in the living conditions for the masses in Gaza or in any of the other “refugee“ camps (in Israel, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon) as long as the terrorist organizations deem it best for their political and financial interests to keep their subjects destitute.

The wonder is, not that the foreigners are fooled, but that the oppressed remain brainwashed, cooperative (certainly under threat as well) and convinced that their own suffering and a constant reign of terror over the enemy is the only way to gain wealth and power over the infidels. And generation after generation, do they truly continue to believe they will one day receive their ‘fair share’?

(And by the way, the exact same propaganda techniques are now being used effectively in the US among the poor. . It’s working there, too.)

Collateral Damage – Bulgaria, Egypt?

International Headlines Scream:

"Israelis killed in Bulgaria bus terror attack, minister says" - CNN

The Bulgarian press reported 7 killed 37 wounded in the bombing Wednesday at Burgas airport, a popular gateway for tourists visiting Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.

The target of the attack was a bus carrying Israeli tourists from the airport to their hotels. Five of the dead were Israelis; who were the other 2? In Bulgaria they are mourning the ones the Bulgarian news agencies identified as a tour guide and the driver of the bus – the other 2 victims. 30 of 37 wounded were Israelis. Who were the other 7?

Yes, in Israel we know we were the target and we mourn the loss of innocent vacationers, our men, women, children, who all left family and friends behind, some of whom were there among the wounded. And yes, the personal stories are heartbreaking for each one. But in Bulgaria, while they mourn the Israelis, 9 families are mourning their losses or comforting their wounded. They too have personal stories.

But they are just ‘ collateral damage ’ to the terrorists.

"Egypt Israel border attack leaves ‘eight gunmen dead’" - BBC

An incursion into Israel by Islamic Jihadists disguised as Bedouin was terminated by the IDF 2 km inside Israel. While one Egyptian army vehicle blew up at the border (work accident!), the other succeeded to cross into Israel. In the explosives laden 2nd vehicle, 8 terrorists wearing bomb vests were killed. In this case a huge terror attack on a small town was prevented and no Israelis were wounded or killed. However, sixteen soldiers and border guards were killed and another seven were wounded. Egypt declared 3 days of mourning for her losses.

Once again, Israelis were the target; the Egyptians were just ‘collateral damage ’.

Note that the BBC refers to them as militants : Do militants attack civilians with suicide bombs? Are they militants when they bomb the tube in Britain or the train in Spain? Just asking.

We know from the bombings in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, etc., that these Islamic terrorist consider human life of NO value, even the lives of their co-religionists. Once at least it was Sunnis against Shiites or tribe against tribe. Now the Islamic Brotherhood and Al Qaeda among other groups consider any and all human beings as a sacrifice for their cause. If they are Muslim, they will receive honor in the afterlife. If not, well, infidels must convert or die, so…

With the exception of anti-Jewish pogroms, holy places were once commonly thought to be off-limits. Today, synagogues, churches, mosques are all legitimate targets. If the jihadists consider the people within or nearby to be a target, any and all gathered for prayer must be sacrificed. Men, women and children are murdered by Islamic Jihadists and most of dead are just ‘collateral damage’. Today mosques have become storerooms for weapons, meeting places to plan terror attacks and even bomb-making sites. At the very least, mosques all over the world are recruitment sites for local Muslims or would-be converts.

All non-Muslims in any country are primary targets, Jews first, then Christians, then secular. All are infidels. Muslims as well as other passers-by are legitimate ‘collateral damage‘, justified by the value of the target.

It’s interesting to note that in the recent wars, the Muslims have frequently used civilians as human shields during their attacks. Then if /when these civilians are killed or injured, for the anti-jihadists side their deaths as ‘collateral damage’ are to be avoided if at all possible. However, to the Islamist Jihadists and the leftist media, they are innocent civilians deliberately murdered by the IDF, US, NATO, you name it. In truth, to the jihadists they actually are expendable ‘collateral damage’, unwilling participants in the Islamic jihad of the terrorists.

When Israelis are targeted, the world media makes sure it’s in the headline. Frequently, the victims themselves are blamed as representatives of Israel, even if they are actually murdered as representatives of their religion: Jews. They don’t have to reside in Israel to be targeted, but if they do, their value as targets is enhanced.

So, while it is most often Israelis who are targeted both in Israel and wherever they travel, no people, no nation, no human being on the planet is safe from death as a result of the Islamic Jihadist’s twisted ideology/theology. Israelis and non-Israeli Jews know they have a target on their backs. But anyone anywhere can be ‘ collateral damage’ .

We Still Mourn – 9th of Av

Perhaps you are aware that the 9th day of the Hebrew month of AV is a Jewish day of mourning, 2nd only to Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement) for all of the Jewish people. On this day, Jews around the world are united in fasting, prayer, and ponder today’s significance of the greatest tragedies of Jewish history – the two-fold destruction of the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem. Yet this year, yes – this year, as thousands walked around the walls the Old City of Jerusalem, walking past every gate, looking up at Mount Moriah, where the Temple once stood, the Jews are not allowed to enter, not allowed to access the mount even through the controlled but unsafe Mughrabi bridge. You see it is the holiday of Ramadan for the Arabs and we must never inflict limitation on their access to the mosque on our Temple Mount. Yes, our Temple Mount. Like the Old City, it was taken in the 1967 war, but as Jews are self-committed to respecting the religion of others and its practice in the Jewish land, daily control over the Temple Mount with the mosques built there was given to the Arab Mullahs.

From there they preach the destruction of Israel. From there they dig underneath, weakening the very foundations of their own mosques while destroying 2000+ years old evidence in order to ‘prove the Jews were never here’. And so the Jews mourn, Jewish police holding them back, looking in from without, intimidated by international threats and boycotts from even visiting the Temple Mount on Jewish Holy Days. Under true justice, who really should be banned from the Mount in order to keep the peace?

Interesting side note: The UN is an international forum for constant demands for Israel to “return the Temple Mount, actually all of Jerusalem and ALL of Israel. One should ask: To whom should it really be “returned”? If it must go back to original owners? To whom? How far back? Only 1967? 1948? The list gets longer and the Arabs will only significantly appear in the picture hundreds if years after the Temple was destroyed!

Only in the matter of German reparations has any significant attempt ever been made to restore the property or its value to the Jews. Never have they been permitted as a people to return to the place from which they were banished. This covers centuries from the first dispersion through modern times (i.e., Europe, N. Africa, Iran, Iraq, etc.).

Arabs Attempt to Lynch Jews? in Israel?

Like most Israelis, I was horrified by the cold-blooded attack on the two young soldiers in Haifa. Unfortunately, it’s not infrequent that Arabs attack young soldiers, but it it was horrifying that there was a gang who set out to torture and lynch them. That the gang of Arab thugs attacked them just because they were Jews , I did not find shocking.

However, I was indeed shocked to read the following quote in a news report of an attack on the two young off-duty Israeli soldiers.

The uncle of one victim also expressed his shock over the attack, which took place not far from the soldiers’ homes.

“We’re shocked. We couldn’t believe that in our country a person can be assaulted just because he’s Jewish ,” the uncle said.
“I asked for an Israeli flag so I can hang it above my nephew’s hospital bed. That’s the most appropriate move and I felt it must be done.” ( Full Ynet Article ) (emphasis mine)

SHOCKED?

Why was he ‘shocked’?

Did he just ‘get off the boat’?
Does he not have a radio or TV or get any newspapers?
Maybe he doesn’t read or understand Hebrew, English, French, Russian, Spanish or any of the other myriad languages in which news is printed and broadcast in Israel?
Hasn’t he heard about continuous stoning along the highways, the recent slaughter of innocents in their beds, the frequent bombs going off near checkpoints?
Hasn’t he wondered why soldiers man checkpoints on our roads and near our cities?
Does he think this is the first ‘lynching’ attack?
Does he think these people are attacked because they are “Israelis” who carry that blue plastic ID card — which many of those same Arabs attacking his nephew also carry, by the way?
Has he never heard cry “God is Great, Death to the Jews” in the towns and cities of Israel as the suicide bombers set off their bombs?
Has he just assumed that the others (God forbid) deserved it — for driving on a certain road, living in a certain area, belonging to a certain political party?
Where has he been? What has he been thinking? Or maybe he didn’t think it would ever happen to his family. Ya think?

If he doesn’t know that all these things happen just because these Israelis are Jewish, then he is delusional.

Or maybe he just didn’t want to know what’s been happening to his own people in his own country, in his city or in his own neighborhood. Well, it won’t matter if he knows or not, whether he understands or not: he is a Jew. We are a people small in number; it is inevitable that, in the end, each of us will be or know someone who has been among the injured in an attack. This time it is to him that I must extend my sympathy and a prayer for healing for these young soldiers because a member of his family was targeted.

To this young soldier’s uncle and to all who would be shocked as he was:

It’s true. The Jews fleeing Europe and the sealed shores of the Americas turned toward the land from which their ancestors had been driven, intending to set up a ‘safe house’ , one international haven to which persecuted Jews could escape. Perhaps they too were delusional for that haven still does not exist. There is yet no place on earth where Jews can live without fear. And it doesn’t matter how much we shrink our land or how many walls we build around our cities, the very people who are demanding their own ‘human rights’ to this land are loudly and actively denying the Jews even the basest of human rights: the right to exist.

So, Uncle, now that you know, fly your flag and fly it proudly. But that’s not enough: You must also defend it, with your words, with your votes and with your blood and the blood of your children, when necessary.

It’s not yet safe, but it’s all we have.

Are Iranian Attacks on Israeli Embassies Meant to Ignite a War?

Iran Attacks Israel Abroad

First, on Monday a magnetic explosive device was planted on the car carrying the wife of an Israeli diplomat in Delhi. She was injured and is still hospitalized in Dehli. Shortly afterward, there was an attempt injure a local Embassy employee on his way to work in Tsibili, Georgia. So far neither attacker has been apprehended but the Iranians are implicated.

On Tuesday, Iran prepared but failed in an attempt to attack Israelis in Bangkok. Israeli security, represented by Defense Minister Barak said that Israel had been on the alert for such attacks and would retaliate. But why did the Iranians carry out these relatively ineffective attacks and why now? Why did they not trouble themselves to hide their culpability? Were the attacks a warning?

DM Barak said more attempts are expected. Did the Iranians feel they had to respond after the US President’s highly public statement denying US involvement in the assassinations of the Iranian scientists and naming Israel as responsible? In addition, Obama has recently made sure to tell the Iranians publicly that Israel was stubbornly refusing his advice and would carry out a springtime attack on Iran. Why? Was he inciting? warning? punishing Israel for not buckling under to his demands?

Or were the attacks meant to give Israel no choice but to open a conflict with Iran through Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy? It’s been obvious for some time that an Israeli-Hezbollah conflict would take international pressure off Syria’s President Assad. Israel has been watching and has responded to Hezbollah’s war preparations across the northern border in South Lebanon. Israel has been intensively improving the density of land mines along the borders, anticipating a potential civilian rush such as Assad set up not so long ago.

Russia has been supplying weapons, equipment and backing which should keep the US out of actively intervening. Russia and the US both have carriers stationed and ready in the Mediterranean. While it’s unlikely that the US would take an active role in the war, the Russians would be likely to do so if they decide it’s in their interest.

Meanwhile, facing possible protests in Tehran during an election, Iran has cut off internet service, including email and social networks and has tightened security in Tehran. Assad is on full attack on Homs and other Syrian cities. Iran, Russian and China are giving him backing. And the Arab League can’t decide what to do about Syria . They can’t depend on the West which is effectively neutralized, so it’s Assad’s revolution to lose. Saudi has decided to send in the Iraqi-Al Qaeda cells to help the resistance in Syria. Turkey is presenting unrealistic plans that Obama, locked in the current situation with Pakistan and Afghanistan, cannot possible approve, so Turkey is also sidelined.

It should be clear from the above partial overview, that there are far too many potential answers to crucial questions, each carrying its own threat to ignite a major war in the immediate future. It appears that this is exactly the goal of some of the players.

Iran doesn’t want the war on its soil. If Iran then ignites a war localized on Israeli and Lebanese territory, the Iranian home front and more importantly his nuclear installations will be protected, buying more time to prepare the missiles. Others such as Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda would be only too happy to help broaden the conflagration. Iran for now is keeping western attention on the Gulf shipping lanes, carrying out military exercise after exercise, making wild threats and agitating at every opportunity. The Iranian leaders are smart enough to know that Obama really can’t afford to start a new war in an election year.

It behooves us all to pay attention not only to the details, but to the underlying motives if we want to be prepared for what the next day might bring.

Iran: Smoke, No Fire

Under cover of all the smoke billowing from the much-heralded but not exactly ‘long-range’ missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, what’s going on?

The newspapers are filled with pronouncements by high-up and sometimes rival Iranian officials. Their message, a savage, world-shaking threat: No more sanctions, no interference in Iran, Syria or their other international activities or they’ll cut off the oil shipping lanes to the west. They are meanwhile, arming Hamas, pulling the strings in Iraq, and in all other ways possible attempting to spread Shi’ite control over the Muslim world. Each time they raise the sword, note that they offer negotiations. It’s a fine — and very successful — act to keep the western powers off-balance until they, Iran, are ready to make their move. It’s just not possible that the western world leaders and their ‘intelligent’ intelligence institutions are so easily wound around the Iranian finger, is it? It would be nice to think that these leaders themselves are operating under a smoke screen to weaken Iran. If so, there’s no evidence of their success to date! (au contraire!)

However, while world powers are fighting a battle for control of energy resources for survival of their economic systems, the Muslims are struggling to build a single religious, social Islamic power. For them the oil is a means not an end, but a means to reach that goal. Hamas chief, speaking after a meeting in Tunisia with so-called moderate Islamist PM Hamadi Jebali: “Palestine is not a banner that we brandish like nobody’s business. It’s a religious and nationalist commitment,” Haniyeh said. This terrorist leader was there at the invitation of the Tunisian PM! Apparently not all ‘moderates’ are moderate!

Oil as an energy source and economic engine is a central part of their strategy. They believe that whoever controls the oil will have the rest of the world by the throat! Who can say they are wrong?

Indeed, the world needs to put aside the current ‘political correctness’. They need to look underneath the smoke rising from the gulf waters, beyond the Iranian media show, and specifically examine the religious motivations and manipulations of the Iranians. The insurmountable obstacle to Iran’s military conquest has been the bloody Sunnis and Shi’ite war for Islamic religious supremacy. The effects of it are most obviously played out between rulers, often on the soil of other less powerful Muslim countries. An widely-publicized recent example is Sunni-led Bahrain who officially came into the Saudi King’s fold in order to escape the encroachment of Iranian directed Shi’ite forces. In today’s news is the struggle is taking place in Syria, where the Saudis Sunni leadership has organized Arab support for the opposition to Assad, an Aliwite minority leader is aligned with Shiite Iran. This internecine war is also significant in the Afghan and Iraq wars (neither over, in contrast to popular belief). The Russians and Chinese, on the other hand, are taking advantage of the opportunity to arm the various sides in order to use them as proxies, in accordance to their own plans for control of these oil-rich nations.

While the two main sects of Islam fight over control over national governments, there are major power struggles within each division, i.e., the extremist Sunnis (Wahabi sect = Al Qaeda) and extremist Shi’ites (Hojjatieh sect = promoting chaos to bring the Al-Mahdi – the 12th Imam). These are the most dangerous to the west as evidenced by their world-wide terrorist activities and their efforts to control unstable nations (Sudan, Yemen, Cairo, Libya, Lebanon, among others). Iranian extremist leader Ahmadinejad is suspected of belonging to the Hojjatiehs and certainly heads a religious-ideological wing which promotes the chaos sought by the Hojjatiehs. Of late, however, it appears that the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been stripping Ahmadinejad of his military power. This conflict is still a conundrum hidden somewhat under the bellicose smoke screen. There is no obvious outcome and no proof of the direction the winner would take with regard to instigating world war.

Other countries (in addition to those whose governmental structure has been torn apart by the mobs) are struggling to maintain some stability. While Turkey has hopped from one side to the other and is now slightly leaning toward following Obama (who is leaning toward the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo and Libya), it behooves NATO leaders to look closely at the religious rivalries within Turkey. Turkey’s past as a western-oriented secular country has been badly shaken up by the emergence of PM Erdogan as a radical leader who envisions himself as the world rule of the Islamic Caliphate. Whether Erdogan continues to hold power in Turkey or not, the Arabs did not welcome him as the ruler chosen by their messiah. No one even knows the direction Turkey will take and not even its near future.

So, dangerous as playing with weapons and extremists may be, we mustn’t get exclusively focused on the smoke of the missiles or the threats to close the strait of Hormuz. We have to keep our eyes on the who is winning the power struggle going in every major Islamic nation. The current US administrations negotiations with the Muslim Brotherhood and other terrorist organizations will only strengthen them. Thus West will instead betray the effort of those truly trying to find freedom. It will instead take them from enslavement to dictators to bondage under Sharia law, as brutally enforced by agents of terror who wield its sword. (see A Different Kind of Tyranny )

The current struggle in the Middle East is NOT really about poverty or ‘social justice’. The hunger and poverty of many in the streets is being used as a hammer to smash the structure of the rulers. Beyond that, it is of no interest to the Islamists. Their suffering is just a tool used to create another smoke screen. But, these revolutions are not just about political power in and for itself: Many of the hard-core agitators are ‘real believers’ intent on forcing a Muslim Caliphate on the whole world. This is NOT a conspiracy theory, this is the basis for the victory of Islam as a major world religion. This they will hide under a professed moderation, using the terms of the West to confound and confuse their enemies: Democracy! Freedom! Social Justice? These are empty terms provided to them by delusional international elitist socialist and communist organizations. These organizations kid themselves that in manipulating the poor and afflicted, in overthrowing the powerful, dictators they will create a chaos out of which they themselves will take control. These deceivers are themselves deceived!

Whoever wins this struggle will determine the future of the entire world, effecting not only our standard of living, but whether we live in freedom or in servitude, and yes, even the survival of our planet.

3rd Intifada Planned?

The headlines today indicate that PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas may be colluding with his military leaders to instigate a new Intifada in an all-out effort to destroy the Jewish State of Israel. While Abbas may think he’s struck a deal with exiled Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal (formerly of Damascus!) allowing Hamas to share power in the Ramallah-based PA Government, Hamas leader Mahmoud Zahar who has refused to align himself with Abbas is predicting that Hamas will wipe out Ramallah’s PA leadership in the coming May elections for control in Judea & Samaria.

The questions are: How much coordination is there between Hamas leaders Al-Zahar and Meshaal? Is it possible they are manipulating him for an internal revolution in preparation for total war on Israel?

Meanwhile on the 24th anniversary of the founding of Hamas, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh reiterated clearly the ultimate goal: to totally destroy the State of Israel. It appears that preparations are indeed being made for large-scale attacks on and from within Israel. Can this renewed war be preempted by Israel? If Israel even tries, the international ‘fall-out’ against Israeli “aggression” will be overwhelming. If Israel does not, she will be vilified for every attempt at self-defense. The only win here? Israel must do what it MUST to preserve Israel and protect Israeli citizens.

Once again a force trained and armed by the West (primarily the US government using the CIA) will be used to bring war, terror and suffering to one more country of the Middle East. The history of French, British and US involvement in this area (as in other areas of the world) has consistently shown a preference for power and wealth over wisdom and a love for humanity. So much for the trumpeted values of these wealthy western governments. (I use ‘governments’ because very often these leaders have acted against the will and not for the good of their own citizens.)

Anyone who thinks they are totally prepared for what the morning brings is delusional. Even conclusions we draw based on our interpretations of current events and world alliances can become totally irrelevant in an instant. Unlike ‘revolutions, rebellions, or so-called Springs’, regime change can come upon us in a final judgment by an unseen hand. If we are wise, we recognize that after all, it is indeed Someone Else who appoints the kings and sets over the nations anyone He wishes.*

North Korea’s Dear Leader is Dead

Today we are witness to one of those ‘instants’ with the death of the North Korean Dear Leader who has shared his weapons of war with other evil men who want to rule the world. No one outside of a few offices in a small starving nation has any idea of the intent of the Dear Leader’s heir: Will he continue with his father’s plans? Will the N. Korean military take over, killing him or using him as a proxy king? Could he surprise everyone and free his starving people? The last doesn’t appear on anyone’s chart of possibilities but who REALLY knows in which direction he or others will take North Korea. Perhaps the worst that could happen is for no one to take power, for even a small percentage of the people to take to the streets. A North Korean Spring resulting in chaos would put their weapons mass destruction up for grab, creating a direct existential threat to millions of people, even a chain reaction of worldwide war and destruction.

Turkey in Crisis

Turkey is keeping quiet about the health crisis of PM Erdogan. He who wanted to rule the Arab World is now facing a ‘change of venue’ and may not, or at least not for long, be present in the corridors of power of this world. He has imposed drastic political, social and religious changes on the Turkish nation. He has turned his back on the West (Europe, US – except for Obama). Using Muslim, anti-western, anti-Israel rhetoric, he has pursued goals that threaten the stability of NATO and the Western alliances in the Middle East.

Perhaps until now it was his megalomania that motivated him and his zig-zag policies with regard to Israel, Europe and with the Muslim countries in disarray (Syria, Iran, Egypt, Libya, et al). However, now we know that it is most certainly his illness that has stayed his hand in carrying out his multiple threats (remember the gas exploration site threats to Israel, Greece, Cyprus and international companies; to invade Syria; to break the Gaza blockade with his warships, etc.)

Arab Spring will bring a Long Arab Winter

The so-called Arab Spring was sprung suddenly on an unsuspecting world, but this ‘sudden change’ was indeed man-made in the capitols of wealthy nations and in the offices of the most wealthy and powerful among them. Rich and powerful ‘visionaries’ are promoting their own dreams of a world order that puts them in charge. They are using the poor of the world to create the chaos that will bring — in their sick minds — everyone to their doorsteps, hat in hand, begging them to restore order. This, of course, they benevolently will set about doing.

Meanwhile the so-called Spring continues to bring death and destruction to those who can least resist or survive it. Most of those in the streets have no idea of how it began or how it will end, and they would deny to their death that only someone far away will reap the benefit of their sacrifice.

Israel in the Maelstrom

Israel is currently under one of its most stable governments. However, turmoil continues within as exemplified by the sharp divergence of Defense Minister Ehud Barak from coalition policies whenever it suits him – especially with regard to relations with US Pres. Obama’s administration. With such instability surrounding Israel, the Iranian bomb on the threshold, and Obama manipulating American Jewry, Netanyahu can ill-afford a crisis of power just now, leaving Barak immune to coalition discipline.

Israel is under real threat of imminent attack from all sides. Governments like Syria and Iran are attempting to stay in power by attacking a common enemy. Rogue groups are supplied with significant weaponry by Russia, China, Iran, and even by the US and Europe and are prepared for attack (not self-defense, please note) at a moment’s notice. Some claim that the sporadic firing from Lebanon and Gaza are simply to gauge range and Israeli detection and response capabilities. Therefore, it behooves Israel to avoid the chaos of neighboring countries, despite needs to rectify some societal inequalities. There are better ways to do it than by destroying the political, social and economic structure of the State.

The Israeli Left (like the Left worldwide, in conjunction with international communist, Marxist organizations) seeks to radicalize the poor and lower middle class of Israel in order to create the chaos of Cairo or San Francisco in Tel Aviv. So far they have not been very successful. It appears that 1) the current coalition indeed recognizes and seeks to reduce the gap between rich and poor and to raise the standard of living, and that 2) most Israelis, regardless of socio-economic status, understand that enemy missiles don’t differentiate. In death, the rich and the poor find true social justice: they are both just dead.

Proliferation in the Age of Technology

Greed for Power and/or Money has created an entire world armed to the teeth with weapons of mass destruction and moreover even deadlier technology!

A recent and potentially critical example of the proliferation of not only the usual WMD’s (nuclear weapon technology and components, chemical and biological weapons) but of today’s cutting edge cyber warfare and killing technology is seen in the Russian involvement in Syria and Iran, the US involvement in Afghanistan, Pakistan and now, Iran.

Advanced Weaponry

It has been reported that a recent and large shipment of advanced cruise missiles was sent to Syria by the Russians. These will be very effective for attacking US, Israeli or Turkish ships off the coast of Lebanon. Hizballah will be quite pleased to cooperate with Syria and Iran just to get their hands on the means to increase the threat to Israel.

Syria has an advanced military with massive stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons (some thanks to Saddam Hussein’s demise). They don’t have the technological superiority to design the high end delivery systems but they don’t need it. The training they need to handle the weapons has long been supplied in Moscow and the advanced technology with some of it’s handlers is a “gift” of the Russian government. Syria is Russia’s toe-hold in the Middle East and Russia doesn’t intend to let it go down with (or without) Assad at the helm.

This last week has seen the capture of the stealth drone the RQ-170 Sentinal. This extremely advanced and secret intelligence tool is now being examined very minutely by at the very least Iran and Russia, with China most likely participating. If it is successfully reverse engineered, they will be flying over every area of the world any hour of the day or night. In addition, the cyber warfare likely used to down the UAV will soon be available to all. Does this mean we won’t be killing soldiers and civilians any longer, but ‘killing’ and disabling robots?? Would that this would be the case.

Hi-Tech Intelligence and Killer “Robots”

If one takes the example of the increased use of the UAV’s by the US and Israel, the effort to take out targeted leaders, weaponry or other targets very often incurs what is nicely called ‘collateral damage’. That damage could be my family and yours, just as those families living near terrorists in Pakistan and Gaza have found themselves in the bull’s eye. If these UAV’s were limited to intelligence-only or defensive use, perhaps the collateral damage could be argued as the cost of stopping attacks with an even greater loss of life -like the Hiroshima, Nagasaki unending now-philosophical disagreement. But the argument is once again not just philosophical. More critically, the increased spread of this machine that can be used for intelligence or as a robotic killer, will also now allow use by rogue dictators and evil regimes bent on conquering others.

It’s a moot point if the US was at fault (or maybe it was a deliberate way to deliver ‘something’ to Iran??) for the loss of the drone. What’s critical is that one super-aggressive power and two potentially very aggressive powers now will have this same technology within their means. Israel can find and strike a terrorist in the midst of sending out his killing team in a street in a high population center. What’s to stop Iran (who has already planned an attack in the US) from deciding to take out the President or the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon or the CIA director? What’s to stop Syrian Shiites or Hizbollah from bombing Israel’s Defense Minister or other high official?

There is no end to the likely outcomes of the spread of technology meant for use in war. Nuclear and chemical warheads are now more than equaled in their threat to the whole world. Without the new delivery technology they would be even limited comparatively. They too rely on the cyber war capabilities.

Now, think about the anti-personal bombs and even more critical to survival, the electronic warfare that will knock out all communications systems, electrical grids, and infrastructure subsystems over whole countries. Hacking into the Pentagon is a child’s game beside what is hidden in today’s headlines – a secret technology drone was stolen by Iran. So few words……such unimaginable outcome.

Just in case you think that arms dealers are all shady characters hunted by Interpol, meeting in darkened corners, murdering the competition and bribing 3rd world countries to buy their wares, think again. National and International Intelligence agencies, diplomats, and legal arms manufactures lead the rush to arm every country on earth with weapons that can end life as we know it.

Mostly, we commoners never hear even about the official deals, let alone the machinations of the underworld, but once in a while a headline hits the news: US threatens to withhold technology from Israel if Israel sells xxxx planes or yyyy arms to India. Same news media, two months later: US signs large contract for xxxx planes or yyyy arms with India. You figure it out!

Now Iran has the latest and greatest arms prize and is brazenly auctioning it off to the highest bidders, likely to be the Russians and Chinese since they built much of the existing infrastructure in Iran. Some experts wonder if and, if so, who helped Iran ‘break the tether’ and land the drone in working order. It’s the perfect setup: If the drone had come down in Russia or China (or any other country, for that matter), US pressure would have forced them to return it. Few places would be currently rogue enough and immune to US pressure than Iran.

Iran is driving a hard bargain for granting Russian and Chinese teams access to the US stealth drone RQ-170 it captured undamaged last week. DEBKAfile reports: The price, they were told, includes advanced nuclear and missile technology, especially systems using solid fuel, the last word on centrifuges for enriching uranium and the S-300PMU-1 air defense system, which Moscow has consistently refused to sell Tehran. Why Worry? The Saga of the Iranian Nuclear Bomb

So will Israel strike Iran’s nuclear facilities, or won’t she?

Eight years is a long time to play ‘she loves me, she loves me not ‘ and the daisy’s petals have long since fallen, crumbled and gone. However, the leaders of the free world are still passing around the daisy and pretending to see petals to pull off: she has the bomb, has it not. The gamble is now being exposed for the illusion it has always been. The question is now as passe as the children’s game.

While the leaders deluded themselves that they were deceiving the public in order to hide their own lack of will to find solutions, the common folk knew the truth and resigned themselves to some future catastrophe. Their only hope was that the diplomatic theater would delay it or that somehow their world would survive it. Today, reporters revealed that in a private conversation, French leader Sarkosy labeled Israeli PM Netanyahu a liar after which US Pres. Obama in commiseration said that he had to deal with Netanyahu daily. Amazingly they don’t seem to realize how their ‘friends’ and especially their enemies view them!

Now the public is being told by every media channel that Obama is warning of strict economic sanctions on Iran to bring her into submission: That was yesterday. Today, they are loudly announcing that the threat is off the table. In any case, with Russia and China protecting Iran, the sanctions seemed certain to fail while inflicting such a serious wound to the world economy that might bring the mighty crashing down without the need for the BOMB. Such has been the success of Obama and his backers to break the power of the west in his 3 short years in power.

After encouraging Israel to attack Iranian submarines in the Red Sea and after delivering the bunker buster bombs to Israel in September, the White House and US State Department are raising the noise level to warn Israel NOT to undertake unilateral action. German, Italy and NATO, trained with Israel in Italy for long range bombing runs and military exercises, the leaders of NATO pressured Israel (at least in the media) to draw down. Will the US now cancel the announced large military exercise with Israel in March?

The likelihood is that Israel will find itself under attack sooner or later, from any and every direction, no matter how this plays out

If Israel decides she must strike, will she be going it alone and face the counterattack isolated and sanctioned? What would be the cost this time to ‘David’ for staving off the Islamic ‘Goliath’, for buying the weak-kneed western leaders a few months or years before they will have no more options but to fight or die? Meanwhile it is an international ‘hostage’ situation as Tehran continues to threaten that before retaliating on anyone else, millions of Israelis will die for any strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, apparently referring to Israel’s major population areas as targets for their long-range missiles – not to mention the arms now in Gaza and S. Lebanon. Hezbollah may or may not wait for ‘justification’ to launch their 10,000 missiles against Israel.

And if Israel doesn’t, how long before Iran, Hezbollah, Syria (or what’s left of her), Lebanon and Hamas with an enfeebled Egypt decide to jointly attempt to wipe Israel off the map? In Debkafile’s opinion, “Israel [is left] with a choice between a military strike or bowing to the Obama administration’s acceptance of a nuclear-armed Iran and learning to live with this ever-present menace. The same stark choice confronts Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf.”

And the most outrageous statement ever by Obama has been his recent threat that by the summer of 2012 “someone” must strike Iran!!! That is so obviously a pre-election ploy. It would be meant to ensure his own reelection in the midst of the hysteria that would result immediately after the attack. It appears that his power is far more important than the lives of millions in Israel, the Middle East, Europe and America. Just how low will he go?

One Man Killed as Rockets, Grads Rain on Israeli Cities

UPDATE 02:00 31 October 2011: One man, Ami Moshe age 59, of Ashdod, died from shrapnel wounds inflicted by Grad which hit his car. 15 others remain hospitalized with moderate to serious wounds. Israeli PM Netanyahu said there is NO ceasefire in effect as of today, Sunday.

Interestingly, the pattern is: Terrorists fire on or bomb Israel then quickly call for international help in imposing a ceasefire to escape retaliation against those ordering or attacking Israeli civilians. Well, guess what? It took us a while, but we are ‘onto them’!

30 October 2011: From 17:00 Saturday (Sabbath) IST more than 25 rockets and missiles explode in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gan Yavne and other cities in southern Israel.

Schools closed tomorrow in most area cities. Israel responding to bomb attack sites in Gaza.

Islamic Jihad Islamic group is responsible. In response to their attack last week, Israel struck and killed a top leader and several operatives in Gaza.

Hamas claims it doesn’t want the conflict intensified, but it’s clear they are able to take control if they wish. These are long range rockets and Grad missiles, not small shoulder-held Katushas.

Meanwhile, Israel cannot absorb multiple attacks on civilian populations without response.

Who Benefits from the Chaos?

When International Organizations, whether Labor, Leftists, Rightists or extremists with any agenda can manipulate hapless citizens to violence in the streets in order to achieve a “regime change” or a “spring”, they affect the whole interconnected world — for good or for bad.

When chaos reigns, the average citizen will gladly hand over his freedom and all his worldly goods just to obtain safety, security, food and shelter. When this happens that citizen cannot place total blame on those Organizers: They can only succeed if the citizens have shown total indifference to the health of their society at a local and national level.

Apathy and ignorance is what has made the average citizen gullible and vulnerable. The price in blood and the future enslavement of untold generations is described vividly through thousands of years of world history.

The goal of social and economic destabilization is not difficult to achieve with sufficient propaganda and money. The question is, to what end? What is the plan for re-creating stability and a positive governance? What does the average citizen want, in Egypt, in Libya, Syria, Tunisia, etc? To do more than just survive? To live securely? To have a good quality of life with adequate food and shelter for his family? It sounds so simple and are worthy goals.

Are those taking this citizen into the streets doing so to give him what he wants? Does the average citizen understand that his blood may be spilled and what comes may be worse than what was?

Who is asking what THEY want? Who ARE those ‘selfless’ leaders in NY or London who are creating the chaos? It’s not hard to find out.

Unfortunately, many of the leaders, financiers, and ‘community organizers’ are not so selfless as they seem. They are vying for the spoils: POWER, WEALTH, and CONTROL, enslavement of the masses for their own comfort and to satisfy greed. I wonder if it’s too late to stop them….

Gilad Shalit – Prisoner Exchange

Sunday Israel and Hamas revealed the names of 477 Palestinian prisoners to be released. This will begin the first stage of the prisoner exchange. The remainder are to be released after Gilad is transferred to Israel. But it must be pointed out: Gilad and the PA prisoners were not all judged and sentenced to prison for equal crimes. This is NOT an equal trade between Gilad and the terrorists. And we do not refer to the number: 1027 for 1.

Among the 477 PA prisoners in the first release are many who directly murdered Israeli civilians — not in self-defense and not in battle: In a pizza shop, in their homes, in a hotel, and so forth.

On the other hand 20 year-old Gilad Shalit was kidnapped during an ambush of his patrol INSIDE Israeli territory by terrorists operating from Gaza. They came from within “their own territory” into Israeli sovereign territory. They were not attacked, nor were they being threatened. Gilad Shalit was kidnapped to be held for ransom. He was held in isolation, underground, with no contact from the IRC or other agents, for five LONG years. For a long time there was even no proof of life given to provide hope to his family. Over five years his family received three letters, an audio tape, and a DVD for which Israel had to release 20 female PA convicts. NO ONE YET KNOWS how he was treated, what he suffered during that time.

Would that no murderers ever be traded to redeem the innocent: But it’s neither black nor white. Most civilized countries refuse to ransom kidnap victims. The country then pays the price of watching it’s own slaughtered – sometimes beheaded, on TV and Internet screens around the world. The families pay the price many times over for the rest of their lives. However, paying a ransom encourages kidnappers. So they say and so it is.

It is more difficult in Israel because it’s a very small country in land and population. It’s like an extended family. Everyone knows someone who knows someone who knows or is related to the family in such a tragedy. When a attack happens almost everyone is within a driving time of from a few minutes to 3 hours. When a bus blown up or a restaurant is bombed, the whole country comes to a halt. Cell phones no longer work as the system is overwhelmed with people trying to locate loved ones who were to be in that location. Hospitals set up special phone lines that are often overloaded and all media is focused on the attack. Normal life and work comes to a stop while everyone who can watches and informs those who can’t. No one is untouched which fulfills the precise definition of terrorism and intent of the terrorists. All are praying that there are no dead or maimed and watch helplessly as the numbers rise.

So, it was with the ambush and when we were informed that one soldier (or civilian) was kidnapped. We all mourned the dead and injured and became Gilad’s family – and the terrorists know it.

Where then does that leave us? What are our alternatives?

On the personal level:

Gilad is coming home bringing if not a complete and immediate end to his suffering, at least relief to be in the warmth of his family whose whose own suffering has been agonizing over the last 5 years. The healing for him and for them can begin. Who doesn’t feel the pain of this soldier and this family?

On the national level:

Soldiers who risked their lives to capture the murderers of Israeli civilians, men, women and children, will now be free to kill again, even to attack those very soldiers and their families. Hamas and other terrorist groups have already announced that they will seek more soldiers (and/or civilians) to kidnap. So other soldiers, other families are at an even greater risk. Who doesn’t feel the frustration and pain of the soldiers who captured these murderers and the survivors of those whose blood was spilled.

And how will people at both levels feel when the next murderous attack comes, on another bus or in a restaurant or or in a school?

Where is the balance here? Which is the highest moral value? Which is the best decision for Israel and for Jews worldwide?

We are paying a very high price and we will feel no assurance that it will be honored until we see Gilad in the doorway of his home.

Was there no OTHER way to set our captive free?

Father and Baby Son Die While the Nations Cheer Their Murderers

While the world’s eyes and ears were focused on the UN, the direct consequences of the demands of one man, Abbas, resulted in the spilling of innocent blood.

Dateline: ISRAEL Friday, Sept. 23, 2011

FIRST REPORT: Around the time Abbu Mazen (Abbas) was making his demands before the UN General Assembly, a young man was driving home on a highway near Hebron with his small son in a car seat behind him. Police said he apparently lost control of the car, it turned over and a little later he and his baby boy were found dead in the wreckage of his car. Police report that soldiers nearby saw no rock throwing in that area and their deaths were presented to the Israeli media as a tragic car accident, probably due to speeding.

THE CIRCUMSTANCE: Abu Mazen (Abbas) spoke at the UN claiming the right to rule a Palestinian State as the head of the PLO – a well-known terrorist organization. In Israel a man and his one-year old son were driving home on a public highway near the ancient city of Hebron. In a terrible confluence of events, these Israeli citizens were now going to pay the price in blood for living in the UN-established State of Israel. Far-away in New York at the UN General Assembly, representatives of the world’s nations stood to cheer the very man who trains his citizens to kill. He instructs them to murder citizens of Israel of any age, at every opportunity in any way they can.

THE EVIDENCE: Those first on the scene could see clearly that the windshield of the car had been smashed and penetrated, but not by the accident. It had obviously been struck by a large object, the steering wheel cover was torn, the driver’s face showed injury typical of being struck in the face, without connection to the accident, and a massive stone was seen on the front seat beside the driver with the driver’s hair and blood on it. One early responder reported that Asher’s gun had been removed from its holster.

THE BETRAYAL: The deaths of Asher and his son, Yehonaton were reported as a tragic car accident due to speeding. For their family and for all Israelis who must rely on the Israeli Police and IDF to protect them as they go about their daily lives under constant threat, this was/is a terrible betrayal. The decision was made to cover up the terror attack so as not to ‘trigger riots’ while Abbas was speaking in the UN.

Perhaps that makes sense for the policemen or soldiers who have to confront the deadly stones with shields and guns, but they are at least trained and can legally use any official means of self-defense they have at hand — and nearly never do they stand under attack alone, exposed, with their children at their sides. For all the protection the police and army are empowered to provide for Israeli citizens in carrying out the legal activities of their daily lives, this man and his son were essentially confronting the terrorists alone. He was simply driving home on a public highway with his child. A car appeared in front of him and a heavy, sharp rock was thrown through his windshield, hitting him in the face and causing him to lose control of his car. He didn’t have time to draw his gun. He didn’t have time to call for help. He and his child were alone and defenseless. But he was made guilty of his own death and that of his son in order to make life easier for the politicians, the army and the police. He stood alone as a citizen of a civilized country whose authorities cowered behind the threats of terrorists.

THE ALTERNATIVE: Why didn’t these same officers see an opportunity to EXPOSE the lies of Abbas as he called his future state a State of peace? As he called the Jews racists and murderers? Indeed, it would have highlighted his statement that the PLO (PA State) will NEVER recognize any Jewish State in any part of “conquered Palestine”. It would have pointed up the clear meaning of the map he shows as his ‘logo’: Palestine from Lebanon to Egypt, from Jordon to the Mediterranean Sea. There IS NO Jewish State in the future of the Middle East, only Palestine. They will get it by one means or another: through propaganda and political manipulations with the dangerously foolish West and Anti-Semitic Arab states or by spilling the blood of as many as it takes wherever in the world they deem necessary.

So, this week, the world may heave a sigh of relief that Turkey didn’t attack the Israeli and Greek ships, that Libya continues on a low fire, that Syria’s war is still contained within Syria, that Saudi Arabia is so far holding the line in Yemen, and Bahrain, though noisy, is still stable. and that Iran won’t use nuclear weapons at least while Ahmadinejad is in New York.

Middle East Crisis Continues Apace

Meantime, the crisis in the Middle East continues, though at a slightly lower threat since Turkey’s Erdogan has been temporarily bought off:

TURKEY

Turkish PM Erdogan didn’t start WWWIII in the Middle East by attacking Greece, Israel, NATO and US. In fact, after a nice closed-door meeting with US President Obama, he turned into the facsimile of a reasonable leader. Instead of attacking, he sent his warships to mark off his own territorial waters and leave others to theirs. In addition, the subject of banning Israel’s participation in the missile shield (anti-Iran) has just slipped his mind for the time being.

Not only that, he bragged about enforcing the arms embargo against President Assad of Syria! Who knew?! (And still no one really knows!). But low and behold, he is buying a whole bunch of US drones to use in his fight with the Kurdish separatists and NO one will object to the illegal occupier of Northern Cyprus stealing any gas he can find off its shores!

PALESTINIANS

Before PM Erdogan began to play nice, he dabbled in the Egypt/Israel/Palestinian melee, adding a little money and backing to convince Abbas that he is invincible and can dare to defy the US, his former boss and paymaster. Thus the leader of the PLO (now commonly known as the Palestinian Authority-PA) rose to the occasion and gave a rousing hate speech in the UN, carefully using all the propagandist’s and post-historian’s favorite key words to bring the ignorant in the audience to their feet. Those who knew what was coming saved themselves the ignominy and left the hall.

The end of it all? A formal request for approval of full membership for a Jew-free Palestinian State — first to be recognized along 1967 borders, later along 1948 borders and ultimately in all the land currently known as Israel today. (Anyone interested could see it by the map he uses to represent his nascent state.) This request will maybe get lost for a while in the huge bureaucracy known as the United Nations for some unspecified amount of time. However, there are reports that the Security Council will meet to discuss what to do with it. Nothing is certain except continuing terrorism to convince those who haven’t yet decided to given Abbas their support.

In addition, Mr. Abbas kindly made it clear for all to hear — no need for right-wing media to accused him unjustly, that he will NEVER recognize a Jewish State in the Middle East. So it’s not only his little Palestine that must be judenrein, it must be the whole Middle East. Not only did he state this clearly, but he refused to sit down with Israel to negotiate as the Quartet demanded because of the Jews who currently live in the land he claims for his State-in-the-Making. After all, he now has Turkey at his back; he doesn’t need US money (some of it was just wasted anyway buying all those American flags for the burning ceremonies.)

EGYPT

The war against the terrorists in the Sinai that was to be conducted by Egypt recently has fizzled. Perhaps it was indeed only a headline intended to get permission from the Israelis for an significant increase of troops and tanks into Sinai. That was indeed the outcome. However, Israel still must defend its border with Egypt at Sinai as a defense line against enemy incursion. While only some of the terrorists involved in the previous attack near Eilat were Egyptian soldiers, it’s not unlikely that on this pretext or that, an Egyptian unit could attack across the border. Hamas and Al Qaeda roam freely there with large outposts in the mountains. Given the harsh terrain, Egypt couldn’t have cleared out those terrorists anyway.

However, Israel is in a more precarious position now. If it responds against Egyptian military (and some WERE killed in the lsat attack) there would be a grave international incident. Following the ‘paid’ protest and ransacking of the Israeli Embassy, the military rulers are on notice that they cannot conduct business as usual with Israel. They are also on notice that the Islamic Brotherhood and other radical groups intend to take over Egypt. For that reason there has been some rearrest of free extremists and the military rulers are not being accused of “Mubarak-like” illegal arrests. There is unlikely to be any stability in Egypt for the foreseeable future and this means that terror groups will take root there. Saudi Arabia has already taken over as leader of the Arab world. Iran will fight against any influence of moderation and will empower Shi’ite terrorists on any battlefield, political or actual.

SYRIA

Nothing has changed except that the number of demonstrators willing to brave death in the streets has significantly decreased. While Saudi Arabia is still backing the rebels, Iran has taken an active hand in Assad’s strategy, knowing full well they are not only fighting for Assad but against Sunni incursion into their territory and Iran’s continuous access for Hezbollah. Until Erdogan’s little confab with Obama, he was sort of leaning toward what he perceived to be the winning side: Assad. So, though he is now joining the weapons embargo against Assad, he could very well switch sides again if Obama forgets to grease his palms sufficiently.

One point of interest is Turkey’s break with Iran as made clear by it’s break with Assad. Since both Turkey and Iran have been fighting the Kurdish separatists, their cooperation on that front has been fruitful….up to and including US assistance provided to Turkey having the ‘intended or not’ effect of supporting Iranian attacks on the Kurds in Iran & Iraq. The war against the Kurds is quite likely to be a bargaining chip for Obama with both Turkey and Iran, this possibly influencing the support (or not) of the Syrian president. With Saudi supplying support and arms to the Syrian rebels and with the US, Turkey and Iran negotiating around the edges, the Syrians will continue unimpeded in their slaughter.

LIBYA

There is so much propaganda covering this civil war, that it’s unlikely that even the western intelligence services have a handle on it. One day the rebels claim to have conquered a Qaddafi city, the next day they are asking NATO to bomb it for him. Perhaps they credit most of the world with dementia: Maybe they won’t remember the headlines of yesterday when they see today’s?

Where is Qaddafi? What WMD are the rebels claiming to have found? That in itself shouldn’t be surprising. Qaddafi was working hand in glove with Saddam Hussein to develop WMD and a nuclear bomb IN LIBYA. Qaddafi then claimed to stand down and give it all to the US at the beginning of the Iraqi invasion, but who knows? He probably saved some for a special occasion. (Syria is likely to have some of those, too. Is THAT one reason NATO isn’t bombing Assad’s territory?)

SAUDI ARABIA

It’s a good thing Saudi Arabia has a lot of Princes: They are spread pretty thin just now. They have set up a replacement for the old Arab League, usurping some of Egypt’s centrality in Arab Affairs. They are protecting the throne of their new state, Bahrain, and they are funding and arming the rebels in Syria to gain a toe hold there while poking Iran in the eye in both situations. Yemen is an open sore on their border and they are doing their best to get control of the political machine there. Lacking cooperation from the ruling family, a little coercion has been in order.

Saudi’s King has made it clear to Obama that, while they don’t trust the US and are making moves to provide for their own defense, they will cooperate when it suits their needs. And this it does, in Yemen. Saudi Arabia has approved a new and updated CIA station near their border with Yemen in order to control Al Qaeda. This will give the Saudi’s a freer hand in bringing at least a critical part of Yemen, if not all of it, into their orbit.

IRAN

The faded Prince Ahmadinejad came to New York. While he framed his usual lies with his usual vitriol, his royal robes are gone and the world has noticed. The Ayatolas are retaking control and soon, with the coming elections, another will take his place. It will be interesting to see if Obama’s overtures (some of which were able to turn the Prince’s head) will be able to convince the Ayatolas. Stopping nuclear bomb development no longer seems to interest Obama who wants to be seen a ‘partner’ of Iran. However, so far, his ideas for cooperation are been rejected out of hand: What they demand, he cannot supply. For starters, they want the Saudi’s out of Bahrain. Since Obama can no longer tell the Saudi King what to do, it seems he is back at square one.

Much is being made of the implementation of the delivery of bunker busters bombs (so-called) by the US to Israel. These are ostensibly for bombing Iran’s nuclear development sites. Initially (when first ordered), they might have been effective for that. However, the conclusions seem to be that they can’t go deep enough to penetrate the really important mountain caves in use now. In any case, when it was crucial for the first shipment to arrive, it was diverted by Obama to punish Israel for not doing as he wanted. (Does the US administration — in now publishing this really “PRO-ISRAEL” delivery — really think no one will remember that?) So, it’s doubtful Iran is now very worried about these bombs.

Gas Exploration: UN, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece, Israel, EU and US in Multilateral Crisis

Monday: If Cyprus begins to drill for gas as planned on Monday, Turkish PM Erdogan has threatened to take military action against Cyprus, Greece and Israel.

AND/OR he will begin drilling illegally off the coast of Cyprus with military protection. Turkish planes and frigates are already in place in proximity to Israeli ships and Turkish troops have been reinforced in Turkish (Northern) Cyprus. Israel and Greece have signed a mutual defense agreement and are obligated to protect the drilling operation which has been officially authorized by the US White House and State Department. Both US and Israeli drilling companies are in place. If Turkey attacks Israeli or Greek ships, there is no doubt that the US and NATO will have to take sides. Erdogan has essentially cut those ties; does he REALLY think the Turkish military can take on all three, or maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t think Obama has what it takes to take a stand? Erdogan shouldn’t err. Woe to an Arab leader who tries to foil Obama’s plans for re-election. Qaddafi might have some advice about the danger involved. And the current President is the only one who has openly ordered the assassination of 2 leader s off the battlefield. Erdogan might want to think twice about getting in Obama’s face.

Threats of being cut off from NATO and to withhold intelligence support in Turkey’s war on the Kurdish insurgents as well as denial of US drones have had no calming effect on this rogue leader who seems determined to stand boldly at the precipice of war. He has now added a threat to withdraw Turkey’s application to join the EU if Cyprus is rotated into the EU leadership as planned in 2012. That long-awaited application was made for the good of Turkey! The EU will survive without them!

At the same time, Iran is asking exactly why Erdogan has made an agreement with the US to install an anti-missile shield in Turkey…..against Iranian missiles!

Today, there are reports that Turkish planes dropped food and supplies to Qaddafi’s forces fighting a crucial battle against the rebels! Why were there no NATO planes to stop them?

His rant against Israel before and while visiting Cairo and his refusal to agree to the UN Palmer report on the Mavi Marmara affair have placed him well beyond what is considered acceptable behavior by the West. He seems to have left himself no way out except war….with someone. He is quickly losing face with his primary audience –the Muslim World. Given that the favorite Muslim target is Israel, it would seem likely that Israel will be the focus of his attack.

It has been reported that he has already sent frigates to challenge Israeli ships in international waters off the coast of Gaza, to the point of ordering his ships to disarm Israeli ships…as incredible as that sounds. Is he ordering his naval troops to become martyrs in order to provide him with a casus belli? He thought he had a certified basis with the Mavi Mamara, joining the UN in its assignment of the Palmer investigation. However, since this opportunity slipped through his fingers, he is apparently looking for another.

Let there be no doubt: Erdogan appears willing to spill a lot of blood to be seen as the Arab hero at the forefront of the setup of an Islamic Caliphate and to take control of the Mediterranean gas fields. In his vacillation between Arab rulers and the rioters, between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the Military rulers in Egypt and the Islamic Brotherhood, he has estranged himself and shown himself to be an unreliable partner to all. The world is watching the evolution of a madman. As he stands at the edge, having cut himself off from every face-saving exit, the only question becomes, will his military follow him over the cliff?

At the same time, while Presidents and Prime Ministers, Ambassadors and Diplomats move from meeting to meeting in the carpeted halls of New York’s UN building, the real story may play out in Israeli streets.

The UN is slated to vote on the PA application for recognition as a full-fledged member of the UN General Assembly this week. If the US succeeds in convincing enough GA members to vote against the PA, then the US will be able to step back from 1) a veto at the Security Council and, 2) the threat to cut all funds from the PA for it’s intransigence. Obama’s administration and the State Dept should not be surprised. Abbas, a long-time holocaust denier, is working for a one-state solution by any means available: Only Palestine.

Any temporary solution of 2 states is intended to be a ‘judenrein’ (free of Jews) area and will be a base from which to destroy a smaller Israel. It’s already true that Jews are no longer allowed to go into the cities/areas controlled by the PA for fear of being murdered or kidnapped for ransom. However, Palestinian Arabs from these same areas are free to come to shop and work in the nearby “settlements” without any fear…so who are the racists?

Meanwhile, this week Israel is on alert for the possibility that the PLO will be able to bring people to riot in the streets with either rhetoric, money or both. With or without them, the terror groups will undoubtedly take advantage of every opportunity to kill or kidnap Israeli civilians.

Egypt’s war against Al Qaeda in the Sinai has fizzled leaving Israel to defend the border. The military leaders are barely able to keep order in Cairo. Christian Copts are again under attack by Muslims in the Aswan area. The Israeli Embassy remains closed for now and the Egyptian papers are reporting that a ‘millionaire’ paid the rioters to break into the Embassy. If this is being reported in the Egyptian press, it would appear to indicate that the military rulers are more than a little nervous about an Islamic takeover. Debkafiles has reported the involvement of Jama’a al-Islamiya, a forerunner of Al Qaeda involved in the 1993 WTC bombing. The original leaders of this group are now energizing the Muslim radicals to take over the Egyptian government. A little slow to realize, only after they broke into police arms stores did the military leaders finally crack down on the rioters and re-arrest many of the fanatics they had freed. The leaders remain free so far as is known.

In Israel’s neighborhood, the sands continue to shift with the wind. In Arab history, it appears that these constantly shifting alliances have always been the way of normal political discourse. Assassination, money, position and long tribal memories as the definers of rulers and borders are hard for a modern Westerner to grasp. However, as it was, so it is….but the weapons are deadlier and the front is no longer limited to the sands of the Sahara, North Africa and the Middle East.

Iran continues to support Shi’i riots which are again raging against Bahrain’s rulers…who are now actually regents of the Saudi King. Under the radar, Iran and Russia are advising and arming Assad on the brutal tactics that seem to be bringing down the number of insurgents in the streets each with a different goal in mind. Meanwhile, Turkey appears returned to the side of President Assad.

Last week Jordan’s King Abdullah survived another threat when Facebook was used to issue a call for riots at the Israeli Embassy in Amman. That also fizzled, but he had his military at the ready, obviously unsure about how many would turn out for the party. He looks now to the Saudis to have his back, no longer sure of Obama’s support. He has reason to be concerned about the outcome of the pending UN decision its affect on his own large Palestinian population.

Meanwhile, the Israeli news media continues to discuss a strike on the train service, the price of dairy products and the housing crisis as if everything else will somehow sort itself out without interfering with anyone’s daily routines. May it be so, but it doesn’t seem likely this time.

The Erratic Winds of War

The Storm Clouds Darken and the Winds are Blowing

And so in the Middle East the winds of war continue to blow, like wild cyclones colliding, moving in every direction. Just because the last ‘on-the-hour’ 5-minute newscast only mentioned one country being torn apart by the bloody storm doesn’t mean that the others are not still in the midst of theirs. People continue to die, just without the headlines to make it real. Some storms seemed to have passed over in this country or that, but after the eye has passed they face renewed and strengthen destruction from the other side.

In Egypt

To the south of Israel, Egyptian Islamic extremists are again filling the streets, this time using anti-Israel violence to weaken the military commanders (some of whom themselves have long rejected the Egyptian/Israeli peace accord) while at the same time they fire up the not-so-latent anti-Israel sentiment of the Egyptian public. The ransacking of the Israeli Embassy was for them a wild success: The Egyptian military leadership was finally forced to protect the fleeing Israeli diplomats and arrest many of the violent attackers in the full glare of international media, but by holding back so long, they gave tacit approval to the rioters.

After a tense night in the situation room in Jerusalem, Netanyahu was obligated to issue a thank you to the military leaders in Egypt who were finally persuaded to intervene and rescue some trapped Israelis from the building. Of course, it wouldn’t be diplomatic to ask why the Egyptian Army and Police didn’t protect the Embassy from the start and stop the rioters BEFORE they broke down the wall and entered the building. Meanwhile, Israeli diplomats ignominiously fled for their lives and documents from the Embassy were scattered far and wide by the winds of Cairo’s fiery revolution. It should be noted that once all was well and Netanyahu had soothed ruffled feathers with his fine speech, the winds in Cairo shifted temporarily. The military leaders and Islamic revolutionists could now claim that they were after all really against the riots, take a golden opportunity to arrest a few of their enemies and come out of this latest storm all dusted off and in control.

In Turkey

Meanwhile, Turkish winds blow strong then wane and shift more erratically than any unstable hurricane. Following his bellicose bombastic blast, Erdogan now claims that no one understood the his words correctly. He didn’t really MEAN that war ships would confront Israel over the Gaza blockade, just that Turkey would protect any potential Turkish citizen on any potential flotilla ship from any potential harm, should it be needed.

However, newscasters trying to avoid the storm won’t tell you that Obama is helping Turkey (and Iran) bomb the Kurdish separatists into submission by passing US intelligence to them through Iraqi channels. Add to that, the missile defense system soon to be installed in Turkey to detect and protect against Iranian missiles which of course are to be primarily aimed at Turkey. And who knows what Obama is promising Erdogan about those enticing gas fields in the Sea just out of Turkey’s reach. Israel and Cyprus have already defined their territories, Israel has found gas in Israel’s share, and Cyprus (under Erdogan’s ominous Turkish Cypriots storm cloud) is preparing to find gas in Greek Cypriot waters. Erdogan is beside himself with greed and determination, but the genius US manipulator thinks he has the wind at his back.

Even so, Erdogan couldn’t resist throwing a dart at Obama, though it missed its mark by an country mile: He essentially accused Obama of failing to protect an American Citizen of Turkish descent who was on the Mavi Marmara flotilla ship. Did Erdogen really expect Obama to acknowledge his attack? Obama is playing his own game, under cover. At this point in time, his ‘darts’ are aimed at Israeli PM Netanyahu in Jerusalem, sending Dennis Ross et al to pressure Netanyahu to surrender to any and all demands made by PA PM Abbas (who, by the way, isn’t in the mood to make any just now).

In Syria

So, at this moment there is a temporary respite in the storm in the south and in the eastern Mediterranean. Of course, there is Syria. But it’s not at the top of anyone’s list just now. In helpless frustration, the whole world is just wringing its collective hands about Syria where there is a sort of stable chaos. It’s as if there were an invisible wall around it that keeps the storm within from being influenced by the winds from without. Assad doesn’t even take the time to put his finger into the wind to see which way it is blowing. He should. His storm is disturbing the Persian bear just now.

In Jordan

So, little Jordan is due some attention. Small storms have threatened that Kingdom, coming and going while most of the world ignored them. But now, the Palestinians who want to topple the throne have decided that what worked in Egypt might just work for them and even better. They’ve created Facebook pages to call for a “million men (I think that includes women too as they do have permission to die for Islam) to come to the Israeli Embassy in Amman on Thursday. They seem to think they can do more damage than the Egyptians did, but since the word is out, it seems a little unlikely that unarmed Israelis will just wait around for them there.

The real threat is to the throne in Jordan which is not sturdy enough to withstand even a mild storm. In order to control the 1/2 of Jordan’s population that is Palestinian (Yes, it is true: the British DID set Jordan up as the Palestinian State under the Mandate to keep those ill-behaved Arabs and Jews apart.), King Abdullah will either have to acquiesce to their demands or subdue them in the traditional way, following his father’s example: remember Black September ? He doesn’t have a lot of survival options. He is definitely not able to go to war on his own against anybody and who is going to protect him against his own? His traditional protectors are quite busy battening down the hatches under their own storms. Egypt? US? And their latest benefactor, Saudia Arabia? Actually the Saudis are fighting for their own survival, trying to keep storms under control in Yemen, Syria, Bahrain, and Iraq in order to keep the Persians at bay.

In Gaza, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Bahrain, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and on and on

It’s obvious that none of the Arab rulers (or 'wanna-be’s') want an immediate major conflict with Israel, but they must all position themselves and posture and bluster and blow as if they did in order to keep their people’s eyes trained on an enemy without. So, the winds blow this way and that and in the meantime, it is mostly Arab blood being spilled…by the Arabs.

The groups – the Islamists, the Left, the Revolutionaries and Rebels, as well as the West – all think they are in control of the chaos resulting from the storms they have created, but there is something they are NOT taking into account: In the Middle East, there is a very ancient and unseen minefield underlying the whole region. If they are not careful, a ‘devious someone’ by intent or just a ‘unimportant anyone’ in ignorance will trigger a mine and the explosion will echo into the far corners of earth…..

Mediterranean Sea: New Battleground?

Turkey, Iran challenge Israeli Mediterranean Predominance

Following the terrorist attack in mid-August across the Israeli / Egyptian border at Sinai, the Israeli Navy announced that it would maintain a presence in the Red Sea near the border area in order to provide support and protection to Israel civilians in Eilat and along the border. Within a week, Iran’s Naval Commander, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari announced that it too was sending ships, its 15th fleet (a submarine and a warship), to patrol in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. Iranian Broadcasting (IRIB) stated that they would “also fight pirates” there.

To add to the situation, Turkey has once again announced it will strengthen its Naval activity in the Mediterranean, chiefly in the eastern sector. The announcement was accompanied by a threat to accompany ‘blockade buster’ ships to the Gaza port. In the past this has been an empty threat, but no one should underestimate the Turkish PM’s enormous ego and the injury to his pride that was reinforced by the UN Palmer Report on the Mavi Marmara flotilla ship. The fact that the UN body has basically cleared Israel of the main charges and confirmed Israel’s position on the blockade has further enraged the PM who seems to have turned this into a Turkish national insult as well as a personal affront to himself.

Given that Turkey and Iran are at some level cooperating in their long-running independent battles against Kurdish rebels — with both Tehran and Ankara striking them in Iraqi territory, it still doesn’t bode well for either of them in any Israel/Turkey/Iran stand-off in the Mediterranean. While the Iranians are intent on facing down Israel in the Red Sea, the Turks appear intent on the same in the Mediterranean. Both the Iranian and Turkish fleets will undoubtedly be heavily armed with sea-to-sea missiles and looking for even a small victory to bolster their positions.

Could Turkey’s position in NATO be called into question if Erdogan makes good on his threat against Israel? Certainly NATO would not join the fray. As the extremist Muslim Party leader, Erdogan does not enjoy support of more than 50% of the Turks; he has decimated the Turkish military leadership with accusations of treachery and arrests and taken control of the media in Turkey. He has so far proven unreliable as a peacemaker (Arab Spring), as a protector (Gaza Blockade), and an ally (Syria, Iran and US/Obama admin) zigzagging in diplomacy, making empty threats and belligerent statements he cannot support. Though Obama is a wild card in any Muslim/Israeli confrontation, he isn’t free to openly commit the US Navy to support Turkey in a conflict with Israel. And if he was unreliable in support of NATO in Libya and might try to move against Israel in secret channels, who could rely on him to move overtly against an historical US ally.

Erdogan is foolish to think that he can take on the Israeli Navy and win with his untried civilian military commanders in charge and limited intelligence capabilities. While it’s true that Iran may prove a temporary friend, Erdogan has changed sides several times with regard to the Syrian rebel standoff and has backed down on earlier challenges to Israel over the Gaza blockade thus not endearing himself to the Ayatollahs. He’s is simply now playing the ‘common enemy’ card and hoping it works.

It is true that if he starts a fight, he wins some battles even before the first shot is fired: People tend to forget the internal conflicts when an external one rages. It wouldn’t be the first time nor the first leader in history to start a war in order to increase national political power. However, a defeat after he has made a full commitment will likely bring about his downfall.

And what of Iran? Long experienced in war with the west, it could be less likely that they will overtly challenge Israel. Their ships are there as a warning and to affirm their right and increasing ability to influence shipping traffic in the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea, Suez and Mediterranean. Wise strategists recognize though that Iran is more concerned with achieving its goal of world-wide dominance than of winning this or that battle for the sake of their honor. Iran seems more comfortable than Turkey with the Islamic culture of conquest which allows for temporary withdrawal to fight another day, fight another way. The history of Islam is replete with the greater success of this devious approach against the more direct western approach and the more honor-driven oriental strategy. History, however, also reminds us of another sobering fact: No matter how foolish and even inept, a ruler can still spill a lot of innocent blood before his end.

Israel for its part, must be able to deal with both enemies and win, whether directly or subtly, while under the scrutiny of a few friends and a multitude of enemies. In truth, Israel while acting wisely to plan for the battles, must always rely on miracles to turn the war….and so it has happened throughout Israeli history, with the help of God.

Renegotiate Israel’s Peace Treaty with Egypt?

Israel’s Border with Sinai, Egypt

Even prior to the vicious attack on Israeli civilians along the Israeli-Egyptian border, it was clear that the Sinai border was not being defended adequately. However, from 1979 until recently, it had indeed been a peaceful border with few exceptions, drawing tourists from Israel and abroad. However, over the last few years there has been a continual increase in the influx of illegal immigrants fleeing from African wars, with at least 2000 asylum or job seekers entering Israel illegally during the last month. There has also been a suspicion that organizers are taking advantage of some of those fleeing hunger and war since, if Israel did catch and turn them back, it could be used to accuse Israel of crimes against humanity. As a result of this infiltration, Israel has begun to build a security fence hoping to prevent just the kind of terrorist attack that indeed occurred in August of 2011.

Another issue is that over the last few years Al Qaeda has infiltrated the rugged terrain of Sinai. Al Arabiya News on Sept 1st, 2011, reported that Bin Laden’s physician, Ramzi Mowafi, has been training terrorists in Sinai. While Egyptian security sources are trying to deny or downplay the importance of this information, Israeli security has warned for more than a year that Al Qaeda and other extremist Islamic terrorist groups were setting up a base in the Sinai Peninsula. As we noted in an earlier article, Al Qaeda in Sinai — Threatens more than just Israel, 08/02/2011 , this is a danger, not only to Israel, but to the whole Middle East and all countries relying on the Suez Canal for shipment of oil and other goods. While the Palestinian terrorist organization, the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), a terrorist arm of Hamas was found responsible for the recent attack by Israel, they do not operate alone. Several Islamic extremist groups are cooperating in an attempt to set up an “Islamic emirate” in Sinai and are funded by Al-Qaeda.

Now the Islamic Brotherhood is demanding a voice in the ‘new’ Egyptian administration while, at the same time, Israel is considering renewed negotiations in order to allow Egypt to militarize the Sinai to cleanse it of terrorists. Already Israel has twice given approval to Egypt to bring additional tanks and troops into Sinai in hopes of regaining control. For its part, following the recent attack, Egypt is considering setting up a buffer zone on its border with the Gaza Strip.

Obviously any amendment to the Camp David Accords, the agreement that ended decades-long hostilities between Egypt and Israel, will have to be officially negotiated between Cairo and Jerusalem, the Egyptian newspaper al-Youm as-Sabaa reported Tuesday. Egyptian military official Ismail Otman said that the peace treaty is not being altered in any way at the present time, despite attempts by “extremist elements to drive a wedge between the people of Sinai and the ([Egyptian) military… and also cause unrest with Israel.” ISRACAST

The Israel-Egypt peace treaty was signed in Washington on March 26, 1979. It is very specific and includes the articles, a military annex, the withdrawal schedule, the exchange of ambassadors and security arrangements. In a separate Israel-US Memorandum of Agreement, dated the same day, the US spelled out its commitments to Israel in case the treaty is violated, the role of the UN and the future supply of military and economic aid to Israel. In order to provide maximum security for both Parties after the final withdrawal, the lines and the Zones delineated on Map 1 are to be established and organized as follows:
Zone A
Zone A is bounded on the east by line A (red line) and on the west by the Suez Canal and the east coast of the Gulf of Suez, as shown on Map 1.
An Egyptian armed force of one mechanized infantry division and its military installations, and field fortifications, will be in this Zone.
The main elements of that Division will consist of:
Three mechanized infantry brigades
One armed brigade.
Seven field artillery battalions including up to 126 artillery pieces.
Seven anti-aircraft artillery battalions including individual surface-to-air missiles and up to 126 anti-aircraft guns of 37 mm and above.
Up to 230 tanks
Up to 480 armored personnel vehicles of all types.
Up to a total of twenty-two thousand personnel.

Egyptian security services claim to have knowledge of all extremist groups, their training camps and to be closely observing their activities. We see however that Egypt too was caught off guard by the last attack and the attacks on their gas delivery systems. What about the Gaza buffer zone (with its terror/smuggling tunnels)? Do they intend for the UN forces to defend that? Would they allow Israel to defend that? and What would they do if Israel entered the buffer zone seeking terrorists and armaments?

Note the Egyptian public’s reaction to the deaths of Egyptians soldiers when Israel was chasing the terrorists following the last attack! There was a 4-day demonstration outside the Israeli embassy. Egyptian protesters, angry about the deaths of Egyptian security personnel on the Israeli border, demanded the peace treaty be completely annulled.

Egypt claims it can easily clamp down on militant groups with the additional military forces. However, Gaza groups are joining some of Sinai’s native residents (Bedouin, for the most part) and terror groups in Sinai. Those groups, the sources added, were also joined by Egyptians in response to a statement they issued in March calling for reinforcements to aid in the creation of an Islamic state in Sinai. Israel’s Options

Given all of the above, Israel’s options are severely limited and dangerous:

1. Israel could allow sufficient temporary Egyptian militarization of the Sinai, risking extremists taking command of a huge military force created on her southern border.

2. Israel could take control of Sinai temporarily with Egyptian agreement in order to cleanse the Sinai of the terrorists, risking a long, costly Afghanistan-style battle.

3. Israel could assist Egypt in the efforts to clear terrorists from Sinai by providing intelligence assessments and limited air or ground support.

4. Israel and Egypt could renegotiate the entire peace treaty to restore peace and Egyptian control in Sinai, hoping that the Muslim Brotherhood will not demand new terms which endanger Israel’s security.

Likely Outcomes for Israel

At present, Egypt is very busy trying to reconstruct their country and looks likely to lose a significant measure of control to Islamic extremists who are violently anti-Israel. So any agreement made now is quite likely to be canceled or at least ignored by a future government.

For now, no matter what Israel has done, is doing or will do to placate the Egyptians, the security fence must take priority and intelligence must be accurate and timely. Given the anti-Israel sentiment in Cairo especially over the past few weeks, it appears likely that the southern border (Sinai, Egypt — Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda, PRC) will end up like the northern border (Hezbollah, Lebanon — Iran, Syria).

No matter how we view it, the chaos created by the so-called Arab Spring, is being successfully used by the Islamic terrorists to threaten Israel on every side.

Jihad: From the Pen to the Sword

It’s often amazing how the most insignificant people and events can turn the world upside down. Without sword or shield, without powerful position, one person or event can wield such great power as to forever change the course of history. When it’s for good we applaud it, but so very often it’s for evil. It is at that point

that every man and woman must stand up to be counted, for perhaps it is then he or she who can turn back the tide.

David Von Drehle wrote in his article for the Smithsonian magazine web site, A Lesson in Hate , of one such man who came to see small town America but saw no good, only his own distorted reality. This he took home to Egypt with him in 1951, and there he poured forth a flood of words filled with the bile of his own corrupt vision. He called his vision jihad. A member of the Muslim Brotherhood, he was executed as a traitor in Egypt in 1966, making him an heroic martyr in the eyes of his followers. Yet his teachings on jihad wreaks havoc even today around the world.

Von Drehle begins, “Before Sayyid Qutb became a leading theorist of violent jihad, he was a little-known Egyptian writer sojourning in the United States, where he attended a small teachers college on the Great Plains. Greeley, Colorado, circa 1950 was the last place one might think to look for signs of American decadence. Its wide streets were dotted with churches, and there wasn’t a bar in the whole temperate town.
But the courtly Qutb (COO-tub) saw things that others did not. He seethed at the brutishness of the people around him: the way they salted their watermelon and drank their tea unsweetened and watered their lawns.” Qutb’s gripes about America require serious attention because they cast light on a question that has been nagging since the fall the World Trade Center: “Why do they hate us?”

Von Drehle continues, “Such grumbling by an unhappy crank would be almost comical but for one fact: a direct line of influence runs from Sayyid Qutb to Osama bin Laden, and to bin Laden’s Egyptian partner in terror, Ayman al-Zawahiri. From them, the line continues to another quietly seething Egyptian sojourning in the United States – the 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta.”

A Legal “Occupation”

THE LEGAL BASIS FOR THE EXISTENCE OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL

In a letter “TO PRESIDENT BUSH”, Eli E. Hertz of Myths and Facts.Org begins by making it clear exactly who the PA leader Abbas is and what he means to achieve. This information is out there for all who will see, but somehow, even the leader of the free world doesn’t see it: In an attempt to open his eyes, Hertz wrote to then US President Bush:

I read with interest your remarks on the Middle East given on July 16, 2007 at the White House.

I appreciate your sincere commitment and devotion in promoting and advancing the creation of functional democracies and peace around the world – particularly your effort in the Middle East.

As one who devotes his time studying the Arab-Israeli conflict, and as a person of the Jewish race and religion, it became incumbent upon me to direct your attention to statements you made of which I found offending. Statements perceived as fact, but in reality are, in my humble opinion, misguided.

I would start with the notion that your administration will not ‘do business’ with terror organizations and those who call for the destruction of Israel, or at best, suggest to toss the “Jews to the sea.”

This brings me to Fatah, the main faction of the PLO for whom Mahmoud Abbas is the driving force and was one of its founding members. This is the organization and leadership that the administration relies upon to bring functional democracy, freedom and peace to the region.

Mr. President, it takes little effort to learn what Fatah is all about. Its constitution calls under Article 12 for the “Complete liberation of Palestine, and obliteration of Zionist economic, political, military and cultural existence.”

As for how it will achieve its goal to wipe Israel off the map, Fatah’s constitution, Article 19, minces no words:

“Armed struggle is a strategy and not a tactic, and the Palestinian Arab People’s armed revolution is a decisive factor in the liberation fight and in uprooting the Zionist existence, and this struggle will not cease unless the Zionist state is demolished and Palestine is completely liberated” [italics by author]

If this does not suffice, please review Abbas’ words in a recent rally on January 11, 2007, to a crowd estimated at nearly 250,000 supporters. Abbas calls on Palestinians to refrain from internal fighting and to direct their guns only against Israeli “occupation.”

He promises to “not give up one inch of land in Jerusalem” and he “considers the settlements illegal.”

In his book, “the issue of the refugees is non-negotiable”

So much for the partner.

And now to the “Occupation”

I notice with relief that you did not spell out who is the occupier and who is the occupant – just to make sure I will discuss the legal occupation under international law of Jewish settlers in the area known forever as Judea, Samaria, and Gaza.

In 1897 it was Benjamin Herzl, founder of modern Zionism who said: “Palestine is our ever-memorable historic home. The very name of Palestine would attract our people with a force of marvelous potency.”

In 1917 it was Arthur James Balfour of Great Britain who declared:

“His Majesty’s Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object …”

In 1922 it was Winston Churchill (your hero), British Secretary of State for the Colonies that declared:

Jews are in Palestine “as of right and not on sufferance … When it is asked what is meant by the development of the Jewish National Home in Palestine, it may be answered that it is not the imposition of a Jewish nationality upon the inhabitants of Palestine as a whole, but the further development of the existing Jewish community, with the assistance of Jews in other parts of the world, in order that it may become a centre in which the Jewish people as a whole may take on grounds of religion and race, an interest and a pride.”

On July 24, 1922 it was fifty-one member countries – the entire League of Nations – that published the legally binding document “Mandate for Palestine” and unanimously declared:

“Recognition Has Been Given to the Historical Connection of the Jewish People with Palestine and to the Grounds for Reconstituting their National Home in that Country.”

The “Mandate for Palestine,” a historical League of Nations document laid down the Jewish legal right to settle anywhere in western Palestine, a 10,000-square-mile area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an entitlement unaltered in international law and valid to this day.

On June 30, 1922 it was the joint resolution of both Houses of Congress of the United States that unanimously endorsed the “Mandate for Palestine,” confirming the irrevocable right of Jews to settle in the area of Palestine – anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

“Favoring the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.

“ resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United State of America in congress assembled, That the United States of America favors the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of Christian and all other non-Jewish communities in Palestine, and that the holy places and religious buildings and sites in Palestine shall be adequately protected.” [The resolution was incorporated in the 1937 Palestine Royal commission Report, Chapter II, page 31]

On September 21, 1922 it was Warren G. Harding, President of the United Sates of America who signed the joint resolution of approval to establish a Jewish homeland in Palestine.

Mr. President, Palestine is a geographical area, not a nationality!

As a matter of fact there has never been a sovereign Arab state in Palestine. The artificiality of a Palestinian identity is reflected in the attitudes and actions of neighboring Arab nations who never established a Palestinian state themselves. Nor did the Arabs recognize or establish a Palestinian state during the two decades prior to the Six-Day War when the West Bank was under Jordanian control and the Gaza Strip was under Egyptian control; nor did the Palestinian Arabs clamor for autonomy or independence during those years under Jordanian and Egyptian rule.

Mr. President – Jewish “continuing occupation” that you speak about, is legal and endorsed by international law.

The “Mandate for Palestine” document defined where Jews are and are not permitted to settle. Article 6 of the Mandate clearly states:

“The Administration of Palestine, while ensuring that the rights and position of other sections of the population are not prejudiced, shall facilitate Jewish immigration under suitable conditions and shall encourage , in co-operation with the Jewish agency referred to in Article 4, close settlement by Jews on the land, including State lands and waste lands not required for public purposes. ”

The “Mandate for Palestine” document is the last legally binding document regarding the status of what is commonly called “the West Bank and Gaza.” The September 16, 1922 memorandum (of the Mandate) is also the last modification of the official terms of the “Mandate” on record by the League of Nations or by its legal successor – the United Nations – in accordance with Article 27 of the “Mandate” that states unequivocally: “The consent of the Council of the League of Nations is required for any modification of the terms of this mandate.”

Mr. President, political rights to self-determination as a polity for Arabs were guaranteed in three other mandates – in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq. A fourth Arab state east of the Jordan River – Trans-Jordan, came to fruition via the “Mandate for Palestine.”

Mr. President:

300,000,000 Arabs in 21 ‘exclusive’ Arab countries now occupy an area of 5,207,000 Square Miles, including all the principal Arab and Moslem centers.

6,000,000 Jews in 1 country now occupy an area of nearly 10,000 square miles [will fit into Lake Michigan with plenty of room left] in Palestine and you, Mr. President, propose to reduce it even further.

This is an injustice and a grievous handicap to the continuous development and security of the Jewish State.

Multiple Terrorist Attacks Kill 8 on Israel’s Southern Border

BULLETIN: On Thursday, the 18th of August at noon a large group of ~20 PA terrorists began a complex attack on Israel, first targeting a civilian bus traveling from Mitzpe Ramon to Eilat followed by several murderous attacks ending in 8 Israeli deaths and at least 30 wounded. A 2nd bus, 2 civilian vehicles and a military patrol vehicle were targeted with a variety of bombs, missiles and weapons. Israeli Security Services said that there was some forewarning but for a different type of attack (deliberate misdirection?).

Thursday night Hamas rained about 12 missiles down on Ashdod, Beersheba, Ashkelon, and Sdot Negev, Shar Hanegev and Eshkol. One missile hit a synagogue in Ashdod, injuring 10 worshipers, 2 seriously. Saturday, Hamas continued to fire Grad missiles striking homes, cars, and businesses in Beersheba, Ofakim, Ashkelon and throughout the area. More than 80 missiles have been fired.

One Passenger bus after attack by terrorists near Egypt/Sinai border man was killed, a 4 month old baby and 9 year old child were wounded by shrapnel, 10’s of residents are hospitalized with various levels of injuries. One woman is still on the critical list. Homes and other property have been destroyed. The Iron Dome missile defense system has been able to intercept and blow up 5 of the missiles. Residents are requested to in or near shelters. Red alerts have also sounded in Gedera, Kiryat Gath and Gan Yavne.

Why now? Why there? No official information answering those questions has been given. Is it possible that this is an attempt to divert attention from Egypt’s intensive attack on the Sinai terrorist cells this last week? Perhaps.

On Friday morning a suicide bomber killed several Egyptian soldiers and injured many at a Gaza-Egyptian border. The location is easier to explain: No border fence exists yet at that part of the Israeli/Egyptian border.

In the search for the terrorists, a cross-border shoot out resulted in the deaths of 1 Egyptian officer and 2 of his men. Israel has expressed regret for the loss of Egyptian lives. A joint Israeli-Egyptian investigation will be carried out to analyze the cause and establish preventative procedures. As of last reports, 7 of the terrorists have been killed by IDF and Police special forces. The search for the terrorists continues on both sides of the border, with continued missile attacks and shootouts likely.

Soon after the Palestinian attack, the Israeli Air Force struck a targets in the southern Gaza border town of Rafah, killing leaders of the Popular Resistance Committee (PRC), suspected of planning the attacks. Other targets were the tunnels between Gaza and Israel, weapons stores and launch sites. As the missile launches increased, the Israeli air strikes intensified the attacks on Gaza terrorist targets. The Palestinians reported 15 killed. (There is no ability to independently verify their numbers or the identity of the dead, though Israel knows the identity of the PRC leaders killed.) Israel has stated clearly that it does not want to enter into a 2nd ground war in Gaza. However, the missiles must be stopped. Israeli families must not be forced to live in shelters under constant threat of death by terrorists whose ideology keeps them from valuing even the lives of their own families.

Apologize to Turkey?

Turkey refuses to participate again this year in joint US-Israel-naval exercises in the Mediterranean Sea, a project they had been part of in past years. Turkish PM Erdogan is demanding that Israel apologize for the deaths of the terrorists on board the Miva Marmara, infamous ship in the 1st so-called Gaza Flotilla.

In diplomatic circles in Israel, the US and Europe, there is divided opinion on this and they are all working overtime to find a way for Israel to ‘sort of’ apologize so that Erdogan and his Muslim terrorist supporters can save their honor. However, not even all Turks agree with him. All of his military leaders have ‘resigned’, been fired or retired in light of their rejection of Erdogan’s policies and the rise of Islamic power in Turkey, a normally secular state of mixed religions. They also object to his realignment of their nation with the Arab nations and new distance between Turkey and the EU, not to mention the US and NATO. These last two memberships were once prize plums for the Turkish military, industry and society.

Turkey’s historical western tilt had also given it an advantage in some alliances over the Greeks in issues of conflict.

Now, Greece is filling Turkish shoes in relation to both Israel and, in military matters, the US. Erdogan thought he could make a big impression on Pakistan, Syria, Hizballah and Lebanon, giving him the ability to successfully challenge Iran’s power in these States. It would also have given him an open door to Egypt and Hamas as a negotiator with Israel.

Problem was, in his arrogance, he thought he could go toe to toe with Israel and come out the winner.

Now, in demanding that the defender apologize loudly and publicly to the obvious aggressor, the Turkish PM has backed himself into an impossible corner.

He didn’t win his bout with Israel and he hasn’t received the demanded apology. Now the UN has graciously delayed issuing the report on the Marmara to give Erdogan time to save face since, in this report and the eyes of the UN, Israel is indeed found blameless.

In addition, in taking a public stand with Pres. Obama (probably thinking Obama could pressure Israel), he appeared to again align himself with the West and with NATO — who was then bombing the life out of Libya!

He then tried to use the US to back him in a military adventure in N. Syria. However, his military leaders were now in rebellion and the movement of Turkish troops to the border put him in direct conflict with Syria, causing Iran to issue a strongly worded warning.

Now Syria is angry with Erdogan and Iran has backed him down with threats which include his US backer, Obama. Here too, he had to sheath his sword, as did Obama.

Finally, by flirting with Hezbollah, Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood while loudly declaring his support for Hamas — which set him off on his first (unsuccessful) adventure, Erdogan has succeeded in only one thing: to alienate every side of every significant Middle East conflict and show himself as an unreliable partner for the West and anyone else.

It appears that the outstanding characteristic of Turkish PM Erdogan and his government is his arrogance in thinking he could manipulate leaders and replace Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, becoming the major force representing the Muslim world against the non-Muslim world. His policies and diplomatic thrusts have so completely missed their mark, his failures have been so public and, in corridors of power, so humiliating to Turkey, that his military won’t back him and in the last election he lost the majority he needed to solidify his power grab in Turkey. Meanwhile, as long as he is in power, he is a significant troublemaker and one more chaotic force in a very sensitive region crying out for stability.

So, what on earth could Israel gain by apologizing to Erdogan for the fact that all the Israeli soldiers didn’t surrender to slaughter on the high seas? So that Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barack can continue to sell arms to Turkey?

Is it true that PM Netanyahu is trying to find a way to save face while apologizing? Does Israel want to buy Erdogan’s ‘friendship’? Since when did it ever pay to bribe an arrogant bully. The principle is the same, whether it’s the kid down the block or the Prime Minister of Turkey. The best Israel can do is to continue to develop good relations with Greece and wait for the Turkish people to get sick enough of PM Erdogan to replace him.

Israeli citizens know the Turkish street. They have had good relations with Turkish citizens for many years and historically. But Israel cannot insult the Israeli commandos who faced down the enemy on an extremely difficult battlefield; Israel cannot go shuffling in hat-in-hand to beg forgiveness from the terrorists on that ship nor from the one who officially funded and sent them. No self-respecting nation would do such a thing.

If this small nation Israel doesn’t show self-respect when it is legally and morally in the right, neither will any other nation respect it.

That would be the way to ensure a long line of Erdogens waiting at the door!

Al Qaeda in Sinai – Threatens more than just Israel

News: Al Qaeda strikes Egypt-Israel gas installation in Sinai. Fifth time since February, 2nd time this month (yawn). Obviously, Israel knows it can no longer depend on gas imports across Sinai. Jordan and Syria, also served by these lines, must be making alternative arrangements by the 5th attack.

What most reports don’t tell you is how different this attack was and what it means to the world, not just Israel.

On the 29th of July, the news was that 7+ people had been killed and 30+ injured in a terrorist attack on El Arish, the capital of Sinai (pop. ~115,000). Debka reports that this governmental center and popular tourism site is but 20 km from the MFO base where ~1000 Canadian and US troops are stationed in order to “keep the peace” in Sinai. Egyptian soldiers were also holed up in a nearby base.

This was a military-style attack of a large force bent on random killing, destruction and intimidation. They withdrew with nightfall, but all expect them to return. Obviously there will be no resistance. The following day, they blew up the gas installation also in a military-style operation.

It’s known to anyone who is interested in finding out that Al Qaeda is in the Sinai (with Bedouin cooperation) and that they are in Gaza. This however, is the first attack to expose their organization, training, and probably numbers. It also exposes their intent to take over Sinai. This makes it world business. An Al Qaeda-ruled Sinai is a real military threat to Suez, Egypt and Israel. All Red Sea traffic will be vulnerable to piracy, increased smuggling and to overt military operations.

Reports from Cairo are that the gas companies who own the installation are going to sign up local Bedouin to guard the installations and the pipelines. Isn’t that like paying protection to the mob so the mob won’t hit your store? And even if they find a tribe not sleeping with Al Qaeda, do they really believe the Bedouin can/will hold off Al Qaeda. Really, this must be a joke or news for fools.

Israelis who vacation in Sinai know well that El Arish is 2 1/2 hours drive from Tel Aviv. It means that the threat of rockets, missiles, terrorist infiltration will soon be as strong from Egypt’s Sinai border as the threat from Gaza and stronger than the current threat from Hizballah’s Lebanon.

Should we mention that the Border Fence between Israel and Sinai is not finished? Should we mention that the US and others use the Suez for military traffic between the Arabian Sea and the Mediterranean? Should we mention that oil tankers and other critical shipments cross through the Suez Canal? And should we mention that the Somalian pirates already threaten these shipping lanes at the Gulf of Aden?

If the US and Canadians are not concerned enough about their soldiers in the MFO force within 15 minutes of El Arish, perhaps they will care that the price for oil and gas and those of many imports will sky rocket with Al Qaeda in control of critical shipping lanes.

Israel-Lebanese Border: Renewed Tensions

Today the Lebanese Government has commended the Lebanese military for firing at Israeli soldiers this morning in a new Israel-Lebanon border ‘incident’. No Israelis were injured, 1 LAF soldier was reported wounded. It’s not clear whether this was, again, a rogue soldier claiming Israelis crossed the border (like last year) or whether this is the beginning of a new series random attacks such as Hamas carries out from Gaza. Who knows? Maybe it was even directed from Beirut.

It’s doubtful that even security services know what lies ahead. The change since the last attack is highly significant: Hizballah now controls the Lebanese government and its military services. Last year the Lebanese government ‘handled’ the situation making it a one-time only event — the UN confirmed that Israelis had not crossed the border and that ended the situation. This time the army has received praise for the attack.

In addition, while Syria’s Assad is on full war footing against the now well-armed revolutionaries with 150+ killed, 1000+ injured in Sunday pre-Ramadan assault, Turkish forces sit on the Syrian-Turkish border with attack plan in hand. But they can do nothing. They have been essentially neutralized by the en masse resignation of the top ranks of all branches of the secular Turkish Defense Forces in response to the arrest many ranking officers (charged with plotting to overthrow the government).

Meanwhile, as critical as the situation is for the future of Turkey and its NATO allies, the fallout is immediate and deadly for Syrians. It has provided a window of opportunity, one Assad is using to go full bore against the rebels and indiscriminately against Syrian civilians in rebel areas without worrying about Turkish intervention. While Iran is helping keep the West in check, even US protege Turkey is now stymied.

It is difficult to predict the actions of the heavily-armed Hizballah directing the Lebanese military who regularly patrol the border with Israel. It’s also not clear what Iran’s instructions to Hizballah will be as Tehran tries to prop up Assad both directly and through Hizballah. It wouldn’t be the first time that a mini-war with Israel would be used to divert world attention from Syrian slaughter or Iranian machinations. They have little fear of real defeat: They’ve been able to count on the West and the UN to call Israel off when they are ready.

Is Israel the Cause or the Cover?

What so many western politicians and opinion-makers miss is that even were there no Israel, this region would be a powder keg. Unfortunately, there is oil and there are always those with the motives of money and power, ready to create the local version of class warfare to fulfil their own lusts no matter how many die or suffer.

Some of the more obvious factors creating the clouds of war:

The Saudi’s ‘proxy’ war that pits the Syrian rebels against Assad in hopes of replacing Iranian (nucs) hegemony in Syria
The unpredictable actions of destabilizing Al Qaeda cells in Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, India (nucs), Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, etc.
Muslim Brotherhood and Taliban (with Al Qaeda’s help) attempting to completely take over Pakistan (nucs), Afghanistan
Continued chaos in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Iraq
Jordon standing on the precipice with more than 50% Palestinian citizens
Conflicts within conflicts: The infighting between the Sunni and Shi’i, not to mention, religious, Persian/Arab and ancient tribal conflicts — which have been going on for thousands of years…yes, even before Islam

While before blood, death and destruction were localized, now our modern ‘humane’ era provides the ability to slaughter more with less, weapons that threaten all of mankind.

Israel may well be in middle of the cauldron with the makings of a conflagration and total chaos on her northern, eastern, western and southern borders. But no one on the planet will be able to escape the results if those stirring the pot aren’t stopped.

HISTORICAL FACTS:

1. Nationhood and Jerusalem. Israel became a nation in 1312 BCE, two thousand years before the rise of Islam.

2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a Palestinian people in 1967 , two decades after the establishment of the modern State of Israel.

3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 BCE, the Jews have had dominion over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the land for the past 3,300 years.

4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 CE lasted no more than 22 years.

5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.

7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to Jerusalem.

8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray with their backs toward Jerusalem.

9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: in 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews. Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier!

10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab brutality, persecution and pogroms.

11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is estimated to be the same.

12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory . Out of the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the ONLY refugee group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own people’s lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a country no larger than the state of New Jersey.

13. The Arab-Israeli Conflict: the Arabs are represented by eight separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended itself each time and won.

14. The PLO’s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land, autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.

15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of all faiths.

16. The UN Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.

17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429 were directed against Israel.

18. The UN was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by the Jordanians.

19. The UN was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

20. The UN was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like a policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the Western Wall.

These are incredible times. We have to ask what our role should be. What will we tell our grandchildren about we did when there was a turning point in Jewish destiny, an opportunity to make a difference?

Why Israel Should Not Divide Jerusalem

If the US and Europe do not want the chaos of Lebanon, the slaughter of civilians as in Bosnia and the former Yugoslavia to occur in Israel; if they do not want world-threatening warfare as not seen in 70 years, they should think again about the desirability of dividing Jerusalem.

The article below from the Israeli newspaper Haaretz was written to increase awareness of the Israeli public to the importance of upcoming decisions on the status of Jerusalem. The impending Israeli elections will determine the policies of Israel with regard to the “Land for Peace” issues on the table — and to the very existence of Israel as a State.

However, it’s not only voting Israelis who need this information: Millions of supporters of Israel around the globe need to know the facts. There must be no pressure on Israel to take decisions that will bring about national suicide — or a 3rd world war. Natav Shragai wrote in an article entitled “ THE PUBLIC HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW ” that “the day after a new government is formed in Israel, the issue of Jerusalem will come up again.” Now, with Obama in the White House, it is uncertain what kind or amount of pressure will exerted on Israel and on the issue of Jerusalem, in particular. He noted that “25 years ago lashed out at the U.S. ambassador to Israel, Samuel Lewis, telling him Israel was not a banana republic and that Israel would make do with bread and margarine if necessary, but would not accept dictates?” What the news media in Israel and abroad never mention is the proximity of Arab neighborhoods to Jewish neighborhoods, especially within and around the city of Jerusalem. Shragai continued:

“Every neighborhood on the seam line has an adjacent or nearly adjacent Arab “outlying neighborhood.” Jabal Mukkaber, for example, is a stone’s throw and a gunshot away from the homes of Armon Hanatziv. The Qassam rockets fired on Sderot and Ashkelon would seem like child’s play compared to what would happen here if such outlying neighborhoods are given up. It is enough to recall the firing from the Arab neighborhood of Beit Jala on the neighboring southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo – which went on for years, multiplying the point of friction and distributing it to hundreds of points along a dividing line dozens of kilometers long – to understand what a bizarre reality, one our politicians tend not to talk about, would be our lot.”

Jerusalem is the next “front line” in the war for world-control by Muslims. If they militarize the Jerusalem borders as they have the Gaza borders, WWIII may be reality in our time! Israel cannot cede all of Jerusalem and continue to be a safe haven, a homeland, for the Jewish people. Those who would pressure Israel continually to ‘compromise’ to give more and more ‘land for peace’ are setting the stage for a war they will not win. As you will see below, they not only pressure Israel to compromise, they compromise at home, in their own schools, streets and court systems. We already see that there are no limits to the barbarity of the methods employed in the Islamic struggle for control — first in the Middle East, then Europe and finally (or not finally!) in the US. They work from without in bombings and terror attacks and from within to weaken the determination of the politicians and population to fight the Islamization of their societies. For now, the focus is on Israel, but they also have written that historically that Spain must be Islamic:

There is now a widespread feeling among Muslims that the territories they lost during the Spanish “Reconquista” still belong to them. That they have a right to return and establish their rule there. This is based on the Islamic idea that terrorities such as “Palestine” and Southern Spain which were once occupied by Muslims must remain under Muslim domination forever. “The Rapid Re-Islamization of Southern Spain [“Al-Andalus”]”

But it’s not limited to Spain: They have flooded France with immigrants who are even today marching in the streets, burning and pillaging to ensure control over French policies. All over Europe , in Norway, Germany, Netherlands, and England, just to mention a few, political policies have had to accommodate the demands of the Muslims, to the point of allowing some levels of Shari’a Law to be enforced in England ! In some western countries, taxi drivers had to be forced to pick up blind passengers with their guide dogs. If people of non-Muslim countries do not wake up and actively oppose the tactics of Islamization, they will lose their own culture and freedoms. There is no need for the Muslims to wage western style warfare and no way for the West to use it as an effective defense: terrorism, guerrilla attacks and the exploitation of Western courts to limit freedom of speech and even thoughts are destroying the legal protection until now enjoyed by free peoples. Worse, even now Islamic radicals are stealing the children of these countries through the growth and marketing of drugs, radicalization of rebellious youth and criminals (even in prison), the brainwashing of children under the name of Islamic education: These are all very successful methods being employed now in the US and in every European country (though not limited to them). Please…….

The Real War That Rarely Makes the News

Last year the Stuxnet virus was all the talk. Then the world got bored with it and the news faded except for the infrequent headline. While reassuring the world that all was well, the Iranians and Russians frantically and unsuccessfully tried to repair the damage.

Recently, without much fanfare, it was announced that Iran had, at great cost, replaced all its centrifuges. Russia continues to assist Iran. The missile and the warhead technology continues to advance and are greatly increasing in range and accuracy. In some cases, Iran is show casing successful test, in others, claiming far more progress than the tests show. There is no accurate assessment among nations spy agencies of the status of Iran’s bomb. They vary from 1 to 2 years before total capability to stating that 4 warheads are ready and mounted. Iran has kept the truth buried in an smothering cloud of propaganda and misdirects.

Meantime, several high level Iranian and Russian nuclear scientists have been killed in ‘accidents’ and in daring attacks. It’s likely that Iran’s tight nuclear community may have been penetrated either by foreign agencies or local dissidents. Either way, it’s a strugggle to the end: A failed murderous regime or a worldwide nuclear war. There is not one world leader with the guts to take action and openly tip the balance. The Saudis are the only ones to stand toe to toe with Iran. Given the repressiveness of the Saudi regime, this should give everyone pause.

Blessings on the mysterious ones carrying out the hidden war – but if they don’t win, what does that say about our future?

Rockets Red Glare

By the time people see a missile in the sky, there is no longer the red glare of ignition, just a gray stream parting the clouds or glowing in the sun. But some will see the ultimate red glare — the explosion and fire of impact and the eiree glow as it incinerates all unfortunate enough to be in its way.

Most Americans who sing of the Rocket’s Red Glare in the national anthem have never seen such a thing, except perhaps in the movies. Only a few have seen the long gray tail streaking across the sky in the ominous arc unique to a missile’s trajectory after its launch. Of course, soldiers who defend their nations have seen it all, from the red burst of ignition to the fire on impact, with its deadly explosion obliterating the target. Many have died trying to keep their loved ones from becoming familiar with such things.

But there are thousands of civilians in Israel who have seen what only soldiers of other countries see. There are thousands who have felt the shock and suffered the heat, breathing the stench of death as their loved ones are blown out of existence or maimed, leaving them to live in suffering and pain. Many of these are children who were in their kindergartens and schools or playing football with their friends. Many are mothers and fathers at work or home, grandparents and family.

And today, 2011, the rockets are still targeting Israeli civilians

Every time a Red Siren sounds its warning, panic sets in. By then, there is no time and no way to protect loved ones or prevent someone from dying.

For all these, the Rocket’s Red Glare is a daily reality. When the news announces that the rocket hit an open field or beach, when the announcers says, ‘we were lucky’, ‘the rocket just missed a school’, or ‘the children had already left’, or ‘the school bus was already empty’, the Jewish population of tiny Israel (and some who stand with her) breath a collective sigh of relief…..but there is no chance to relax and go on. For the next one may strike in 5 minutes or 30, in 1 day or 2, but it will certainly come.

Only by the Grace of God has the kill ratio of these murderous attacks has been low. But as a result, the world has become so used to the reports that they no longer really hear them, or if they do, they just shrug it off as inconsequential…far less important than the mundane tasks of seeing a friend, taking the kids ot school or going to meetings.

God willing, the Rocket’s Red Glare will not become a daily occurrence in the lives of most of the world’s children, but should it be so one day, everyone should remember the daily cross-border rocket attacks started in Israel, seemingly insignificantly in a far away place where there seems to have always been wars, and when these children died, not many cared. There was no flotilla and no NATO. There was neither hunger strikes nor international outcry by the human rights organizations and the the protectors of the oppressed were silent.

Even now this evil is spreading to other lands. While Israel will defend her innocent civilians, as long as others deny the threat is real, as long as they pretend that there is no danger to themselves, the rockets will fly today here, tomorrow there, in every land the red glare of the conflagration will engulf all — if not today, then tomorrow. And no one should think they are too isolated, distant or protected: where the rockets cannot yet reach, their will be bombs and fires — in forests, in homes and cars — in indiscriminate attacks meant to create fear, destroy and inflict suffering on humans, animals, the economy and the environment.

Our message to those who think they can placate, appease, or bribe the aggressors back into a peaceful life: KNOW it is an illusion, a deceit and a lie. They will not stop until they rule — Israel, the West, the poor and yes, even the powerful. They will own the entire world, through intimidation, torture, fear. The constant red of blood running in the streets and fiery explosions of their missiles striking indiscriminately in every far corner of this world is the reality they seek.

Wake up and stop it while you still can.

Cluster Bombs

Hizbollah inserted nails and metal balls into the heads of the Ketyusha rockets that they rained down on civilian population centers in northern Israel. These rockets were specifically designed to cause maximum injury and death to all persons in proximity to the bomb’s impact. Yet the international headlines today make little or no mention of Hizbollah’s Human Rights Violations. It’s all about Israel and Cluster Bombs. However, international law does not prohibit the use of ‘cluster bombs’. With survival of the Nation hanging in the balance, Israel daily made decisions which endangered her soldiers in order to spare civilians. Unfortunately, the “civilians” were often the enemy firing on Israel.

Behind the Headlines: Legal and operational aspects of the use of cluster bombs

International law d oes not prohibit the use of ‘cluster bombs’. Consequently, a discussion of Israel’s use of such weaponry should focus on the method of their use, rather than their legality.

The accepted legality of cluster weapons
Both international law and accepted practice do not prohibit the use of the family of weapons popularly as ‘cluster bombs’. Consequently, the main issue in a discussion of Israel’s use of such weaponry should the method of their use, rather than their legality.

A 2002 report by Human Rights Watch on explosive sub-munitions – the category of weapons to which cluster bombs belong – states that these weapons are stocked by 56 countries and have been used by at least nine (including the US, Britain, Russia, and Israel). There are 208 types of sub-munitions, which are manufactured by 33 countries. The US used cluster bombs during the Gulf War, as did NATO forces in Serbia and Kosovo.

One of the arguments used by those who support the use of cluster bombs is that this weapon causes in most cases less damage than that caused by a regular (250-1,000 kg) bomb.
The legal method of use
It goes without saying that any use of weapons in warfare must comply with the international laws of armed conflict concerning legitimate targets (the principle of distinction between combatants and civilians), avoidance of deliberately harming civilians, the principle of proportionality, and the need to take reasonable care. In addition, it is prohibited to use weapons that cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering, and weapons that are inherently indiscriminate.

The legal method of use
It goes without saying that any use of weapons in warfare must comply with the international laws of armed conflict concerning legitimate targets (the principle of distinction between combatants and civilians), avoidance of deliberately harming civilians, the principle of proportionality, and the need to take reasonable care. In addition, it is prohibited to use weapons that cause superfluous injury or unnecessary suffering, and weapons that are inherently indiscriminate.

When examining the legality of an attack on a legitimate military target, additional parameters may also be examined, such as the extent of incidental injury to the civilian population in the vicinity of the target and the military advantage achieved in attacking the target. The balance between the two determines the legality of the entire attack.
Israel’s use of weapons in compliance with international law
These considerations of compliance with international norms were paramount features of the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) operations in Lebanon, in which strenuous efforts were made to ensure that these were carried out in complete accordance with international law, both with regard to method and weaponry.

IDF operations are directed only against legitimate military targets (the terrorists themselves, the places from which they launch attacks against Israel, facilities serving the terrorists, and objectives that directly contribute to the enemy’s war effort).

The IDF does not deliberately attack civilians and takes steps to minimize any incidental collateral harm by warning them in advance of an action, even at the expense of losing the element of surprise. This measure, which is not obligated by international law, proved itself in practice by in fact reducing injury to civilians.
Hizbullah use of civilians as human shields
This concern for civilian welfare points out one of the clearest distinctions between the IDF and a terrorist organization such as Hizbullah, which cynically exploited Israel’s humane practice by deliberately operating among civilians, using them as human shields by storing and even firing missiles from inside their homes.
The use of human shields is banned by international law, which states that hiding a terrorist objective in the heart of a civilian population does not afford it immunity against attack.
Clean-Up efforts after hostilities
On conclusion of hostilities, questions arise from both sides regarding unexploded ordnance left behind on the battlefield. For example, many deadly explosives fired by Hizbullah against northern Israeli population centers still remain unexploded. Israeli civil defense authorities are consequently making great efforts to locate and disarm these weapons in order to protect Israeli civilians from further harm. Israel regards the welfare of Lebanese civilians in same manner. Immediately after the cease-fire the IDF gave UNIFIL maps indicating the likely locations of unexploded ordnance, to aid the international attempt to clear these areas and avoid injury to the population. Furthermore, immediately after the cease-fire the IDF distributed warning notices to the residents in the areas of warfare, and recommended that they wait a few days before returning to the south until the UNIFIL forces were deployed there and the area had been cleared of unexploded ordnance.

UNIFIL Press Statement

UNIFIL is steadily enhancing its operational capabilities in order to fulfill its responsibilities under Security Council resolution 1701 (2006). More than 3,000 additional troops, for a current total of around 5,200, plus an Interim Maritime Task Force, have been deployed so far. UNIFIL personnel are patrolling the area of operations, monitoring the cessation of the hostilities, and assisting the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), which have already deployed five brigades in the south. Yesterday, UNIFIL confirmed the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to south of the Blue Line, except in the area around Ghajar, and ensured a seamless and smooth takeover by the LAF.

Should the situation present any risk of resumption of hostile activities, UNIFIL rules of engagement allow UN forces to respond as required. UNIFIL commanders have sufficient authority to act forcefully when confronted with hostile activity of any kind. UNIFIL has set up temporary checkpoints at key locations within its area of operations. Permanent checkpoints are being established by the LAF to stop and search passing vehicles. In case specific information is available regarding movement of unauthorized weapons or equipment, the LAF will take required action. However, in situations where the LAF are not in a position to do so, UNIFIL will do everything necessary to fulfill its mandate in accordance with Security Council resolution 1701.

In implementing their mandate, all UNIFIL personnel may exercise the inherent right of self-defense. In addition, the use of force beyond self-defense may be applied to ensure that UNIFIL’s area of operations is not utilized for hostile activities; to resist attempts by forceful means to prevent UNIFIL from discharging its duties under the mandate of the Security Council; to protect UN personnel, facilities, installations and equipment; to ensure the security and freedom of movement of UN personnel and humanitarian workers; and to protect civilians under imminent threat of physical violence in its areas of deployment, within its capabilities.
